The Leader, also known as Dr. Shaw, is the secondary antagonist of the TV series Space 1999.
Dr. Shaw is a projection of a nasty Blob person and the leader of their collective that infiltrate their Alphan base. While not malicious at first and pretending to be the friends of the heroes he is truly a creature that wants to feed of their toxic waste supply.
Biography[]
Dr. Shaw is a Blob from a dark planet and has the power to assume the form of someone from a victim's memory. In this case he used the good doctor's form from Doctor Helena. Along with the other blobs they make instant peace with the Alphans using the alibi that they are here to take them back to Earth at long last. Therefore they hold a party and strengthen their influence on the Alphan crew along with even Maya. The only threat is Koenig.
Earlier the reason why Koenig lost his mind and went on a joyride is because of the Blobs who tampered with his mental state. Therefore because of a machine used by the crew he can see their true forms. So they brainwash an Alphan to execute him but ultimately it fails. Luckily for them, the crew thinks that Koenig is delusional when he claims that they aren't humans or their friends. Thereafter, he meets with Guido and they drive an Alphan who discovered their plans into an erratic panic. Ultimately he is killed when he burns to death.
With Dr. Shaw monitoring Koenig he and the other blobs make a furthering step in their master plan. As they rig a selection of astronauts to "go to Earth." In actuality it is so the radioactive experts can blow up the Alphan ship releasing energy to radiate on their world. So the Alphans die and they thrive. Realizing this, Koenig and company create a frequency that exposes the ship's crew to the blob's mind control and now just the leader tells them it is futile to interfere.
Living their utopias on Earth the radioactive experts are rigging a time bomb that will end everyone on Alpha and release enormous amounts of energy. As they live on energy and their planet's reserves are already depleted. Still to use it people need to perish and the Leader does mention they will still go out oblivious to the fact. Koenig though takes out the astronauts and knocks sense into them before preventing the imminent explosion. The leader retreats in pity, never to be seen from again along with his blob gang.
Personality[]
The leader was a misanthropic individual free from emotion and believed he was doing humans a favor by giving them their "dreams." While as Shaw he could feign normal human aspects.
