Drag Strip is a minor antagonist in the Transformers franchise, especially Generation One. He is a member of the Stunticons.

Biography[]

Generation One[]

Cartoon[]

Drag Strip first appeared in the two-part second season story "The Key to Vector Sigma". Megatron wanted a group of Decepticons who could operate on land so had Rumble steal cars which he reformatted into Drag Strip and the other Stunticons, giving them life with Vector Sigma. One of their first tasks was to raid a military base, which the Autobots were blamed for. However, their mission brought them into conflict with the new Autobot subgroup, the Aerialbots, and they were defeated by the combined might of Superion and Omega Supreme.

Drag Strip continued to appear with Megatron's troops and had a large road in "Masquerade", in which he and Dead End stole a generator from a military base for Megatron's secret weapon. Drag Strip was subsequently taken out by Warpath and captured with the other Decepticons. While the Autobots impersonated them to get close to Megatron (with Mirage posing as Drag Strip), the quintet managed to escape and expose the impersonation but were unable to stop the Autobots destroying the weapon.

In the aftermath of The Transformers: The Movie, Drag Strip was among the Decepticons who went into exile on Chaar, first agreeing to help the Quintessons and then becoming part of Galvatron's attack on Earth. Drag Strip and the other Stunticons were later on guard at Trypticon and ended up fighting Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. He last appeared in "The Return of Optimus Prime", where he was among those infected by the Hate Plague and was one of the infected Transformers arrived at Metroplex to destroy Optimus Prime until got cured by the Matrix of Leadership.

He was voiced by the late Ron Gans, who also voiced Armus in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Marvel Comics[]

Drag Strip first appeared in the Marvel UK story "Second Generations", as part of a vision from the Matrix of the future of the Transformers which was intercepted by Shockwave. He was brought online by Megatron in US Issue #22 where he and the other Stunticons were sent to ruin the Autobots' good publicity by causing havoc and pretending to be allied with Skids. This led them to battle both the Aerialbots and anti-robot organisation RAAT.

After being part of the convoy of Decepticons moving to a new base in Issue #25, Drag Strip wasn't seen again until the UK story "Enemy Action", when he was part of the team put together by Shockwave to defend against an apparent attack by Galvatron. He was part of the battle with the Autobots on the moon in Issue #41, and last appeared during the Underbase Saga as one of the Decepticons guarding the captive Buster Witwicky. He may have been among those deactivated by the Underbase-powered Starscream.

Drag Strip reappeared in Marvel UK's "Earthforce" storyline, where he and Dead End were seen serving Megatron during his plan to use a satellite to alter Earth's atmosphere, later battling the Battlechargers Runabout & Runamuck to try and retrieve it. After the Earth Decepticons were united under Soundwave and Starscream, Drag Strip played a role in the storyline's final arc, acting with Dead End and Breakdown to provide cover for Motormaster after he kidnapped the human journalist Irwin Spoon. Drag Strip and Dead End were finally tricked by Bumblebee and Tracks into colliding with Motormaster.
