The Dragonsaurus is the main antagonist of Marcus Pfister's children's book Dazzle the Dinosaur and its 1997 cartoon adaptation. It is a fictional theropod dinosaur with the thagomizers of a stegosaurus, two hands with sharp claws, a large mouth with razor sharp teeth, and a head with a horn on his snout and three horns on its head.

History

In the Book

During the night, Maia tells Dazale that the Dragonsaurus took over a cave that was owned by their mother when she was a kid, as well as her family. It was only mentioned in this part of the book and only appeared later on.

During the climax of the book, he was seen sleepimg in the cave by Dazzle and Maia. Maia then went in the cave to make the Dragonsaurus go away. The Dragonsaurus then wakes up after sniffing Maia and corners her, attempting to kill and eat her. But Dazzle turned his back to the sun, making the sunlight reflect off his scales and shine into the Dragonsaurus' eyes. The Dragonsaurus then runs out of the cave.

In the Cartoon

His role in the cartoon is similar but there are a few changes. He was first seen in Maia's flashback scaring off the other Maiasauras, who owned the cave and were returning home.

Later on in the climax, he was seen sleeping in the cave. Then Maia goes in despite Dazzle telling her not to. After entering, the Dragonsaurus sense her presence and wakes up. Then Dazzle uses his scales to make the sunlight flash in his eyes. He then runs arounds in the cave and ends up bumping into a wall in the cave. Then he runs out of the cave but stops and manages to open his eyes. He then sees Dazzle and growls at him. But Dazzle, who is not afraid whatsoever, tells him to move out and makes the sunlight flash in his eyes again. The Dragonsaurus angrily shakes his head side to sid. Then Dazzle makes the sunlight shine in his eyes one more time. After getting blinded for a short time again, he looks up at the sun at runs away in terror, never to be seen again.

Trivia

  • It is implied that the Dragonsaurus is afraid of light. This possibly implies that he is nocturnal.
  • Although the main antagonist, his role was small in both the book and cartoon.
  • He is the only fictional dinosaur genus in the story, although he could possibly instead just be a stylized Ceratosaurus.
