Draugr are recurring enemies and supporting antagonists in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Found in ancient Nordic Tombs scattered across Skyrim, the Draugr are the decayed, embalmed corpses of dead Nord warriors who return to life to kill those who would dare trespass in their burial chambers where they were interred.
Description[]
Draugr are easily identified as they wear the tattered remains of their Ancient Nord Armor and are equipped with Ancient Nord Weapons to attack trespassers into their tombs with. Normally dormant in their crypts or niches in a state of slumber, they will awaken if they sense movement in their vicinity. Weaker variants like normal Draugr, Restless Draugr, and Draugr Wights will attack with one- or two-handed Ancient Nord Weapons, and sometimes use ice-based magic spells against their foes, like Frostbite, Ice Spike, or Blizzard. Archers will use Ancient Nord Bows and Arrows to attack from long range. The stronger variants, like Draugr Scourges and Draugr Deathlords, have access to the use of the Dragon Shouts, or Thu'um, with their common Shouts being Unrelenting Force, Frost Breath, and Disarm. The biggest threats are the Draugr Overlord and its stronger selves: Draugr Wight Lord, Draugr Scourge Lord, and the most dangerous of them all, the Draugr Death Overlord. Draugr Deathlords and Draugr Death Overlords not only use the full power of the Unrelenting Force, but are armed with ebony weapons to cut their foes to ribbons in seconds if they are not properly equipped to face them, especially ebony bows and arrows. One shout of Unrelenting Force to ragdoll the Dragonborn and a few ebony arrows later will have them kissing the ceiling as the Draugr Deathlord or Draugr Death Overlord that killed them laughs in victory to taunt them.
As the Draugr get stronger, they can be easily identified by the amount of Ancient Nord Armor they wear:
- Regular Draugr wear only the torso part of the armor, or barely anything. Maybe even a helmet.
- Restless Draugr/Overlords wear the boots and possibly the gauntlets. A helmet may also be worn.
- Draugr Wights/Wight Lords wear a full set of the armor, minus the helmet, as they may wear one that can't be crafted.
- Draugr Scourges/Scourge Lords wear the full set, including the helmet, which differs in appearance based on the Draugr's gender, just like when worn by a male or female Dragonborn, and the brown hair or fur that covers the back of the torso armor.
- Draugr Deathlords/Death Overlords wear the full set, including a tattered tail of cloth on the back of the waist armor, but the helmet they wear is the Helm of Yngol, with the horns on top of the helmet and pointing upwards.
Draugr also serve as the guardians of the eight named Dragon Priests that can be found throughout Skyrim, defending the tombs where several of the Priests slumber and attempt to defend the lich so the Dragonborn cannot acquire their mask. Krosis is the sole exception, being guarded by a dragon instead.
Once killed, the Draugr can be looted for their weapons, arrows if they used a bow, and some gold. Those Draugr who remain in their crypts or wrapped in the linen wrap burial cloths serve as containers that might have some gold and either weapons or armor on them.
