Dread is a supporting antagonist in the ROBLOX horror game, DOORS👁️. It is somewhat similar to Haste, being that both have mechanics that revolve around time.

Appearance[]

Dread appears as a strange, white-blue blob with tentacles and holes. It has what looks to be eyes on the top of its head, and multiple mouths on the bottom.

Biography[]

Dread only spawns when a player spends too much time in a single room. You can tell if Dread is about to spawn as all the lights will slowly begin to break, followed by the now audible sound of the players' breathing. When Dread spawns, it will darken players' screens, causing them to exhibit a grayscale tint. Afterwards, it will slowly chase players while remaining nearly invisible. If Dread reaches a player, it will immobilize them, emit a static-like texture, and instantly kill the player. Dread has small whispers, and they get louder as Dread gets closer to The Player.

If Dread spawns and a player opens the door to the next room before Dread kills them, Dread will immediately de-spawn and will grant players the "Dead of Night" achievement. Players can crucify Dread. Dread, like Screech, A-90, Halt, and Haste, is a client sided entity, meaning in multiplayer. each player encounters a "different" Dread.

Behavioral Changes[]

Pre–Mines Update Before The Mines Update, Dread always spawned at midnight specifically in Door 13 even if the player waited much longer in earlier rooms. The timer to midnight was fixed, and only the Door 13 room was eligible to trigger Dread.

Post–Mines Update After The Mines Update, Dread can spawn in **any room** as long as the player remains inside long enough for the in-room clock to reach midnight. The strict Door 13 trigger was completely removed, making Dread a global timer-based threat instead of a single-room scripted spawn.

Spawn Rates[]

Unlike most entities, Dread does not use a traditional RNG-based spawn chance. Instead, its spawn rate is tied entirely to the room’s clock. As the clock progresses toward midnight, Dread’s effective spawn chance gradually increases:

  • At 11:00 — The chance is extremely low.
  • 11:30 — The chance becomes moderate.
  • 11:45 — The chance becomes high.
  • 11:55 — The chance becomes very high.
  • 12:00 (Midnight) — Spawn chance reaches 100%, guaranteeing that Dread will appear if the player is still in the room.

Opening any progression door immediately resets the clock back to its starting time for that floor, resetting Dread’s spawn rate to the minimum.
