The Dread Duckies are antagonists in the game Dark Deception.
Biography[]
The Dread Duckies are the main enemies of the level Stranger Sewers. Mainly using stealth to their advantage, out of the various large rubber ducks floating in the level, only 6 of them are Dread Duckies. The only way to find out which ones are alive is by using a red Soul Shard or by using telepathy. The Dread Duckies attack when the player gets close to them, firing out their inner mouths in a attempt to kill the player. In the final act, Malak himself tries to stop the player by summoning Frenzied Dread Duckies and the Doom Ducky. Finally while the player is escaping from the Doom Ducky frenzied Dread Duckies will block the nooks preventing the player from hiding out of the Doom Ducky's path,with one final frenzied Dread Ducky being encountered in the room before the portal.
Appearance[]
The Dread Duckies appear similarly to large rubber ducks made from a a hard plastic or porcelain, with a traffic cone on their head, empty eye sockets, and blocky teeth. When active, they use a inner-mouth to snare the player, and grow grey, human-like legs. When in a frenzy, they turn a dark grey, with their eyes both leaking a sewage like liquid and gaining a red glow.

- Their stomping animation is currently the longest jumpscare in the game.
- They make several cameos in later levels throughout the game: in Crazy Carnevil, there are booths full of Dread Ducky plushes, a game booth where they are targets, and a Ducky trapped in a cage in the starting area, and several large plushes scattered about zone 2. In Bearly Buried, Mama Bear has a Dread Ducky plush in her bedroom.
- Their inner mouth is based on the nightmarish duck toy in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
- They could represent Ludilophobia (the fear of toys) and Aquaphobia (the fear of water).
- Their taunt, dancing at the player, has been used as a meme/joke.
