The Dread King, Dark Lord of Nagash- 2016-01-05 17-11

The Dread King, general of Nagash.

The Dread King is the main villain of the real time strategy videogame Warhammer Dark Omen. One of the generals of Nagash, the Dread King was a mighty undead wizard from Nehekhara. A powerful warrior and practitioner of necromancy, he would become one of the most feared and mysterious beings to have ever threatened the Old World.

Story

The being known as the Dread King was known to have been one of Nagash's most powerful henchmen, aiding him in his early attempts to bring undeath to the world, he served Nagash well and was rewarded with an aura of dread and a mighty dracolich. At some point after Nagash fell, he was entombed within a pyramid in Nehekhara.

The Dread King would eventually awaken, thousands of years later and leading a massive force of skeletons, ghouls and zombies. All were drawn to his power with even Mannfred Von Carstein of the Vampire Counts pledging allegiance to the dark lord. Many other mighty beings joined the ranks of the Dread King, including another former Dark Lord, the Hand of Nagash and the powerful Black Grail Knights, a twisted undead version of Bretonnia's Grail Knights.

The Dread King was eventually destroyed by a joint-army comprised of, Grail Knights of Bretonnia, Dwarf warriors, forces from Kislev and the mercenary company of the Grudgebringers led by Commander Morgan Bernhardt. Although the Dread King survived the final battle, his crippled body was found amongst the dead by Commander Bernhardt, who ended the Dark Lords unlife for good with his Grudgebringer sword.

Powes and abilities

The Dread King was also a mighty warrior, large in stature, armed with a massive sword and covered in ancient heavy armour. He could cut down his enemies in their droves. He was also a powerful practitioner of Necromancy, writing the book known as the Grimoire Necris, which also allowed his ascension to undeath.

Trivia

  • Despite being a powerful threat and tied to Nagash, the Dread King is never mentioned in Warhammer games outside of Dark Omen.
