~ Drooper to Stevie's corpse. |
Drooper the Lion is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Fleegle) of the 2019 direct-to-video horror comedy film The Banana Splits Movie.
He is a member of The Banana Splits and one of the four mascots created by Karl that go on a rampage and start a killing spree after learning their show is to be cancelled.
He was portrayed by Kori Clarke and voiced by Eric Bauza.
Appearance[]
Drooper is a tall brown lion with a large red clown-like nose and a cartoonishly-long tail wearing a pair of orange sunglasses and white spats. He has a dark brown mane and the tip of his tail is yellow. As part of the Banana Splits uniform, Drooper dons a large red marching band hat with yellow tufts.
Personality[]
Like the rest of the Splits, Drooper is programmed to be a kid-friendly mascot made to entertain audiences. However, after he learns his show is to be cancelled and because of his faulty programming under the software "The Show Must Go On", he and his friends go on a rampage to ensure his show continues. He goes to extreme measures to do this, murdering every adult he comes across and capturing children and chaining them up to watch his show. Due to these two pieces of programming, his killing spree is incredibly theatrical and gleeful, murdering his victims in acts reminiscent of the show he's programmed to perform for. Despite his murderous nature, he still exists to entertain and perform for kids, albeit performing grisly acts for what he perceives as entertaining traumatized children.
Drooper in particular is shown to be playful and sadistic, laughing maniacally whilst torturing his victims and singing while chasing Paige. He is very loyal towards his friends, shown when he brings Bingo into Karl's workshop to be repaired and angrily attacks Beth and Austin when Fleegle is killed. Like Fleegle, he is very protective and enforcing of his audience and makes sure nobody gets in the way of his show continuing.
Biography[]
Drooper was created by Karl as a member of the titular band starring in the children's television series The Banana Splits Adventure Hour, which has become a cultural phenomenon with children and audiences alike for the group's wacky antics and catchy songs.
Nine-year-old Harley Williams gets tickets to a live taping of the show for his birthday along with his mother Beth, father Mitch, stepbrother Austin and classmate Zoe. When the group arrive at the studio, the Splits almost run over Harley who excitedly runs in front of their Banana Buggy. As a result of this, Karl gives Drooper an update while the others head to the stage, unaware that the new vice president of programming Andy has just announced to Rebecca the show's producer of his plans to cancel the show after the taping. Later, Karl sends Drooper back to the stage, unaware that the animatronic has been corrupted. During the show's closing musical number, Drooper purposefully knocks drunken co-star Stevie off a speaker box after the latter mocks him after learning of Andy's plans.
After the show, Stevie mocks the animatronics about the show's cancellation and their upcoming demolition. As a result, a malfunctioned Drooper follows him into his dressing room. Stevie spits wine in Drooper's face to get him to leave, prompting the animatronic to shove a large lollipop prop down his throat, killing him. Drooper reappears with the rest of the Splits to take pictures with the VIP tour backstage, with Harley noticing the blood on him, unaware that he's just killed Stevie. The group separates, with stage dad Johnathan searching for the producer to get his talented daughter Parker in the show, only to get attacked by Drooper in Andy's green room who burns his face with a cigar and aerosol can. He manages to escape alive and warns producer Rebecca and the remaining survivors of the rampage.
Drooper finds Bingo who has been damaged by Beth and brings him to Karl's workshop, where Harley, Zoe and Parker have been locked up by Fleegle. Later, Fleegle captures Rebecca and Johnathan and forces them to do the show's Sloppy Time Course while Drooper films and throws pies at them. Fleegle kills Johnathan while Rebecca tries to escape through the ballpit, only to get her face smashed by Drooper with a hammer. Shortly after, Drooper chases Paige the studio page through the halls, but loses her when she hides in the ballpit.
Under the studio in the boiler room Fleegle and Drooper are keeping the child audience members chained up to watch their show with Drooper bringing in Stevie's corpse which they light on fire. They then reveal Andy, who had been captured by Bingo earlier, nailed to a makeshift Wheel of Endings which lands on 'Banana Split', prompting the two to rip him apart limb from limb. Beth frees the children and gets into a fight with Fleegle and Drooper. Austin manages to take out Fleegle with a crowbar while Drooper attempts to strangle Beth. Luckily Harley arrives and tosses Beth his birthday wand, which she uses to stab Drooper through the mouth.
After the authorities have arrived and the survivors have left, Poppy, an influencer, is seen driving the stolen Banana Buggy with the remains of the Splits in the back, having gone insane from her boyfriend Thadd's death at the hands of Fleegle.
Victims[]
- Stevie - Choked to death with lollipop prop.
- Rebecca - Face smashed in with hammer.
- 18 adult audience members/staff (approximately) - Found massacred in a hallway, likely a combined attack by all the members.
- Andy - Limbs ripped off by him and Fleegle.

- Drooper is the first animatronic to kill someone and partially the last (as he shares a kill with Fleegle), unless one counts Bingo and Snorky's fight.
