Druzil is a tiny devil and secondary villain in The Cleric Quintet series of novels by RA Salvatore. He is the Imp familiar of the wizard Aballister Bonaduce and later Kierkan Rufo.
Appearance[]
Druzil was two feet tall, had a canine face with floppy ears and a big nose. His mouth was equipped with a set of pointed, yellow teeth, and he often moved his forked tongue in a lizard-like fashion. He had bat-like wings and a sharp barbed tail dripping with poison. The imp had taloned claws for fingers and skinny legs.
Personality[]
Druzil was grumpy and would often throw insults at his human masters in the language of the lower planes.
History[]
Druzil was summoned several times on Toril to assist evil spellcasters. He was primarily in service of Aballister Bonaduce of Castle Trinity, and gave the magician the formula for the Chaos Curse potion and stayed with Aballister to see the nasty effects of the potion on the inhabitants of the Edificant Library. Aballister sent Druzil to spy on his rival Barjin by posing as one of the evil cleric's minions when he released the Chaos Curse's gas in the Edificant Library, driving everyone, except the hero Cadderly Bonaduce, mad.
After Barjin's death, Aballister sent Druzil to assist the sorceress Dorigen and the half-ogre fighter Ragnor in their invasion of Shilmista forest.
After Aballister was eventually defeated by Cadderly and his companions, Druzil met Kierkan Rufo, after the latter was banished from the Edificant Library by Cadderly for helping the forces of Castle Trinity. Druzil offered to help Rufo with getting revenge on Cadderly and the library by guiding him to the location where the Chaos Curse potion was left by Barjin. To Druzil's surprise, Rufo drunk the potion from the bottle, which caused him to die and rise three days later as a vampire. The two proceeded to defile the Edificant Library and turn its priests into zombies and lesser vampires before being defeated for good by Cadderly. Druzil was sent back to the lower planes.
Years later, in Passage to Dawn, Cadderly would summon Druzil to interrogate him for information about the balor Errtu to help Drizzt.
Powers & Abilities[]
Apart from being able to sting and poison an individual with his tail, Druzil also had the innate ability to become invisible at will, though any offensive action by himself would reveal him again. He could also change himself into a different creature—once he became a centipede in order to escape an attack by Cadderly Bonaduce.
Druzil could release little bolts of energy, much like small, green bolts of lightning.
Trivia[]
- Despite being a lawful evil Imp, Druzil is often described as a creature of chaos.
