Maldonna Eldritch, known by her alias Duchess, is a major character in the DreamWorks TV Show, The Adventures of Puss in Boots.
She has put herself under a false identity, "Duchess" to study magic science and it is later revealed that she is actually Maldonna Eldritch, the oldest of the four Eldritch Sisters and also the guardian of part of the Gem of the Crown of Souls.
She is voiced by Maria Bamford; who also played Julia Brain in Pinky and the Brain, Guardian Angel and Torcho in Adventure Time, Tito Taylor Thomas in Big Mouth, Nora Beady in Barnyard and Trophy Fantasy in Teenage Euthanasia.
Appearance[]
Maldonna is a slightly obese but stocky woman with long brown hair tied together in two balls on the sides of her head and brown eyes. Since she is missing her right foot, she replaced it with an iron one that can shoot iron arrows at will. Over her eyes she wears protective glasses. She is wearing a brown dress with white sleeves and a green striped pattern.
Personality[]
She is described as an evil woman who is unable to do magic on her own and is obsessed with searching for gold. She initially only cares about herself and uses others for her own purposes to get what she wants, even manipulating children. However, after some time she spends with Artephius, she begins to love him, even though he is too gone for them to be together, and she begins to no longer want revenge on Puss in Boots for cutting off her foot.
Her actions are due to the fact that she doesn't even remember her childhood, her parents and much of her life and the fact that her sisters took away her powers.
Powers and Abilities[]
The Duchess is at first incapable of performing magic by her own power. Instead, she kidnaps and captures wizards in "soul bottles" and uses a special weapon to manipulate their magic as her own.
When she regained her powers, she became surprisingly powerful and formidable. She could blast bolts of lightning from her hands, fly without her bottles, use magic without wizard souls, use telekinesis to attack the Bloodwolf and bring suits of armor to life.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
Before the events of the series, Maldonna was born to the magical Eldritch family at Eldritch Castle, along with her sisters, Malaranea, Maliflua, and Malviola, with whom she constantly argued. When they were old enough, the four sisters were given the task of guarding four pieces of the central gem of the Crown of Souls so that the crown could not be used for evil, nor free the Bloodwolf. King Borval, however, thought that since the sisters fought constantly they would never be able to do the job well in reuniting the Gem.
Maldonna then thought of taking advantage of her witch education and writing a book about her and her sisters. However, when Malaranea, Maliflua and Malviola found out, they were so furious that they cursed their own family, including themselves, to forget Maldonna forever. They erased everyone's memories of her, including hers and hers, stripped her of her powers, banished her, and shrouded her tower in an invisibility spell. Maldonna was banished and cursed and for an unknown reason decided to live under another identity, “Duchess” and became an expert in the arts of science and magical fusion, kidnapping several wizards and using their essences to fuel her spells. She one day accidentally encountered Puss in Boots and tried to set them on fire, but Puss managed to emerge victorious by cutting off Duchess/Maldonna's right foot.
“Duchess” she replaced her right foot with an iron foot and swore revenge on Puss in Boots.
