Duke is minor antagonist in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt serving as the main antagonist of the side quest A Dangerous Game. He is a Novigrad criminal who wants to aspire to one of the bosses of the criminal underworld along the lines of Whoreson Jr.
Biography[]
Duke is a Novigrad criminal when he heard the demise of one of the influential bosses of his hometown criminal Whorson Jr. He decided to take his place, but he lacked a huge amount of money, influence or even henchmen. Duke, wanting to look for money, realized that thanks to rare Gwent cards he can earn a lot of money and become potent. However, the dwarf Zoltan also wants to get three rare cards because of his debts. Duke didn't want the dwarf to find these cards, so he and his friend Earl slowed down and pushed Zoltan from the card business to gwent.
As Geralt goes to the sage and rosemary which is being made into a cabaret, he encounters Zoltan arguing with Duke and Earl where they blackmail Zoltan into withdrawing from the Gwent business. Duke threatens Zoltan to kill him if he gets in his way but Zoltan didn't scare him and taunts him for healthy competition, but Earl interrupts him and angrily tells Duke why he's talking to him if he could have sharpened him just as Geralt arrives. When Geralt joined the meeting, Zoltan introduced Earl and the Duke, introducing Geralt himself to them, forcing Earl and Duke to disappear for a while.
After finishing talking with Zoltan, Duke sent his henchmen to Gwind's Rare Card Collector when Duke's henchmen broke into Zed's house and tortured him asking where the other two cards were, but he didn't respond and was killed. When Geralt enters Zed's house through the roof entrance, he kills Duke's henchmen and searches his house while searching that he managed to find not only one of the clogged cards but also the Book of Income and Expenditure which gives information where the rest are rare thanks to this book Geralt and Zoltan could find all the rare cards Zed had.
After Geralt and Zoltan have acquired all the rare cards, Zoltan contacts a contactee who wants to buy cards from him for a huge fortune. When Geralt and Zoltan come to the brewery to meet the client, they see the duke who killed the client wanting to buy these cards while mockingly greeting them. Duke summons his henchmen to kill Geralt as well as Zoltan escaping with the stolen money from Zoltan's slain client through the defensive wall Geralt goes after Duke to catch him when Geralt finds Duke injured by drowning in the sewers, depending on Geralt's decision, he can kill or spare him.
