Dumar Tanner, mostly known as Sheriff Thomas Hardy, is one of the minor, yet pivotal antagonists in The Mentalist TV-show, and one of accomplices of Red John. He was played by Michael Mosley.
Biography[]
One day, Red John decided to lure Patrick Jane into a trap. He ordered one of his first henchmen, Dumar Tanner (the son of his friend Orville Tanner) to kidnap twin sisters, Emma and Maya Plasket. Emma was killed by Red John to involve Patrick Jane in this story. Dumar, being the sheriff, immediately joined the investigation. At some point, Patrick receives a letter from a certain Roy Tagliaferro (who turned out to be none other than Red John himself), referring him to a certain Rosalind Harker, who tells him about Dunar Tanner (whom Patrick recognizes as Sheriff Thomas Hardy, who helped him investigate Emmy's death and the kidnapping of Maya). He convinces Dumar that he believes him and allows himself to be lured into a trap, counting on the appearance of Red John. But Dumar wants to kill Patrick. Luckily, Teresa Lisbon intervenes and arrests Dumar, saving Patrick and Maya. Patrick and Teresa are counting on Dumar's testimony. But he kills a police officer and attacks Teresa and Maya. At that moment, Patrick shoots Dumar in the stomach (thereby saving Teresa and Maya's lives). Dumar dies in Patrick's arms, not wanting to give up Red John.
Personality[]
Much like Red John and his deceased father, Dumar is pretty sadistic and is more than willing to kidnap people when it's nessesary. It's also should be noted that he loves Maya Plaskett and wants her all to himself. That means he isn't above searching his own benefit even from serving Red John.
