~ Duncan begging Billy to kill Tadzu.
Duncan Hopley is a minor antagonist from Stephen King's body-horror novel, Thinner. Duncan was a police officer and a friend of both Billy Halleck and Cary Rossington. After helping Billy get away with the death of Suzan Lempke by lying about the evidence, he and his associates were cursed by her father, Tadzu Lempke.
Duncan appeared to share the same xenophobia as Judge Cary did for the Romani, eventually succeeding in running them out of town. He further demonstrated his distaste when he lied under oath in order to get Billy off for one of the Romani’s deaths that Billy had caused.
Duncan was later revealed to be somewhat of an insightful person when Billy met up with him after they and Judge Cary had been cursed. He talked to Billy about the irony in their situation and how they somewhat deserved it. Despite his understanding, he still wanted vengeance, requesting that Billy kill Tadzu for what he had done to them.
Biography[]
Duncan first appeared meeting up with Judge Cary and Billy outside of a legal firm after confronting Gabe Romani and the rest of his associates from across the street. After his first meeting with Billy and Cary, he is seen again during Billy's trial for the death of Suzan Lempke. Duncan lied about witnesses and having tested Billy for alcohol, allowing Suzan's death to be ruled an accident.
Duncan is not seen later until Billy sought after him in search of answers. After some begging, Duncan finally let Billy in and the two sat in his study. They discussed why this was happening and Duncan relaying that he thought it was all ironic justice. Duncan then tried to persuade Billy into taking his gun and using it to kill Tadzu. After Billy refused and left, Duncan can be heard firing his gun, presumably killing himself.

Trivia[]
Duncan's curse is the only one of the three to never have been properly labeled, Billy becoming thinner and Cary becoming a lizard. Duncan's curse was described as having sores appear all over his body, his face appearing to have become swollen and his speech having been slurred.
