“ | Have you ever felt the curse? With your whole being, the pox upon life itself. Feared and despised by all. The Reviled blessing. Apparently not. You are but a lamb. A stranger to defilement. Ignorant to your own ignorance. You no longer interest me. I've been long without peace. Don't spoil my quietude. | „ |
~ The Dung Eater threatening the Tarnished. |
The Loathsome Dung Eater is a minor antagonist in the 2022 action role-playing game Elden Ring. He is a depraved Tarnished within the Roundtable Hold that is obsessed with defiling the corpses of many.
He was voiced by Jim Johnson.
Appearance[]
The Dung Eater is covered head to toe in a disfigured set of armor meant to represent someone bearing the omen curse with their horns cut off. The heavy, sun-shaped medallion on his chest represents both the guidance he once saw, and the ring to which it will one day lead. Under the armor he looks horrid, with wildly unkempt hair, he also seems to have a scar on his cheek.
Biography[]
The Dung Eater was one of the few Tarnished to be resurrected by the Greater Will. At some point, he was locked away in the sewers of Leyndell most likely of his own will. The Dung Eater also stayed in Roundtable Hold, only as a phantom detached from his body.
When the Tarnished approaches him with a seedbed curse, he will send them to the Sewer Gaol to find his real body. There the player can free him, and he says he will get back to defiling corpses so that when they are reborn under the Erdtree they will be cursed with the omen curse, and their children too for thousands of years to come.
Later, he challenges the Tarnished to a duel so that he may defile them. If Blackguard Big Boggart is present at the outer moat of Leyndell, he would fall victim to the Dung Eater's defilement before the Dung Eater's invasion. Once defeated, he asks for the Tarnished to bring his corporeal form more curses.
Going back to his cell, he is found tied up to a chair.
Blessing of Despair[]
Should the Tarnished feed him the Seedbed curses, they will receive his armor as well as the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse. Using the Mending Rune to repair the Elden Ring would spread a curse across the Lands Between, preventing the souls from returning to the Erdtree and turning them into Omens.
Seluvis's Potion[]
Should the Tarnished feed him Seluvis's potion instead, he would be turned into a puppet, becoming a part of Seluvis's puppet collections. His puppet can later on be purchased from Seluvis after unearthing Seluvis's basement, which can be used as a summon.
