~ Dustin Tinsley rationalizing his sexual abuse of his own sister. |
Dustin Tinsley is the secondary antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Eighteen Wheels a Predator". He is a drug dealer and sexual predator who sexually abuses his own sister.
He was portrayed by Ryan Coyle.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Dustin has raised his younger sister, Demmy, since the death of their parents. When Demmy was 12 years old, Dustin began sexually abusing her and controlling virtually every aspect of her life, forbidding her to date boys her own age or to go out with friends, feeling he was all she needed. When Demmy reached working age, Dustin became her boss as well, employing her as a waitress in the bar they inherited from their parents.
In addition to molesting his own sister, Dustin has a long rap sheet of criminal offenses including drug dealing, burglary, and assault.
"Eighteen Wheels a Predator"[]
One night, Dustin kicks a customer out for flirting with Demmy, while hypocritically flirting with another customer, Kayla Stuart. They kiss, but she turns down his offer to take her back to his place. He offers to walk her home, but she refuses that proposal, as well. He then leaves Demmy to close the bar while he goes to buy drugs in Hell's Kitchen. He gets high, and then goes home.
The following morning, Detectives Fin Tutuola and Amanda Rollins of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit question him about Stuart, who was raped after leaving the bar. Dustin denies raping her, but Tutuola and Rollins arrest him anyway after finding drugs on his person. During interrogation, he admits to kissing Stuart, but is adamant that he did not assault her. Tutuola and Rollins search his and Demmy's house and find Stuart's wallet in his bedroom, but he claims not to know how it got there. He reluctantly gives his drug deal as an alibi, reasoning that it would be better to go to prison for drug possession than for rape. Ultimately, however, Dustin is charged with Stuart's rape and suspected in several others.
After SVU Captain Olivia Benson gives a press conference identifying Dustin as a serial rapist, however, a man claiming to be the actual perpetrator calls her to complain about Dustin stealing the "credit" he felt he deserved. Benson ends up investigating a series of rapes committed across the country, ultimately arresting the culprit, serial rapist Aaron Wesley Parker. Dustin, meanwhile, is exonerated and released.
When he returns home, Dustin figures out that Demmy planted Stuart's wallet in his room to frame him. Enraged, he beats and rapes Demmy, leaving her for dead. In the hospital, Demmy tells Benson what Dustin did to her, as well as what he has been doing to her since she was 12. Benson arrests Dustin and charges him with rape and child molestation. Dustin firsts says that Demmy is lying, but when Benson and Assistant District Attorney Dominick Carisi Jr. present irrefutable proof of his guilt, he claims that Demmy "wanted it". Disgusted, Benson walks out of the room, telling Dustin's lawyer to explain his limited options to him.
Dustin is ultimately imprisoned for rape, incest, and assault.
