Dutch's Gang are the secondary antagonists of the 2010 western action-adventure video game Red Dead Redemption, serving as the main antagonists of the West Elizabeth chapter.
They are a Native American gang founded by Dutch van der Linde following the collapse of the Van der Linde gang in 1899.
History[]
Background[]
Dutch van der Linde and Hosea Matthews formed the Van der Linde gang in the 1870s, soon joined by a teenage Arthur Morgan and Dutch's lover Susan Grimshaw. The four would lead the gang, who grown larger over the years and acted as a family between each-other. The gang was infamous and well known throughout the American frontier from its foundation to its collapse in 1899, following internal disputes, Micah Bell's betrayal and conflict with the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, hired by business magnate Leviticus Cornwall.
Following the collapse of the gang and after abandoning those who were loyal to him since the beginning, Dutch disappeared for several years, only being seen by John Marston in 1907, eventually helping him to murder Micah. Dutch went under the radars again before publicly resurfacing around 1911. He had then formed a new gang, consisting of young Native Americans who shared his hatred for the U.S government and were charmed by his revolutionary ideas, being promised to get their lands back if they followed him.
Red Dead Redemption[]
The same year, the Bureau of Investigation kidnaps John's wife and son to force him to hunt down the three last known active members of the original Van der Linde gang: Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella and Dutch himself. The BOI is led by Edgar Ross, a former Pinkerton who was in 1899 the right-hand of Andrew Milton, tasked to take the Van der Linde gang down by Leviticus Cornwall.
