Personality[]
According to Atlas Flame, E.N.D. was said to be the vilest out of Zeref's creations; as such, it was safe to assume that while his Human form of Natsu was noble and kind yet fierce and cunning, E.N.D was considerably more ruthless and cunninger to the point of having a deadly bloodlust. His capacity for evil was enough that it was said to strike fear into the heart of the likes of Acnologia himself, but these were all rumors as no one had ever seen him.

| ~ E.N.D desires to defeat Zeref. |
After being awakened due to Natsu's bonds and Humanity, E.N.D. was apparently influenced considerably as he still desired to protect his friends above all else, but retained a great amount of violent tendencies as he brutalized Dimaria Yesta in a one-sided fight to save Lucy Heartfilia. E.N.D's inhibition to protect Lucy led him to severely burn Dimaria and kill Zeref's soldiers upon his search.
While keeping his desire to destroy his brother and creator, this was partially influenced due to Lucy seemingly being killed. E.N.D. was also more than capable of resorting to violence even towards his friends as he mercilessly attacked Gray Fullbuster for being in his way. Even while unconscious, his programming to kill his brother lingered and he was able to utter his desire to kill him. It was only after being stopped Erza and seeing Lucy alive, did E.N.D's humanity re-awaken and Natsu.
Appearance[]
Having been constructed from a human body, E.N.D.'s appearance was the same as Natsu's, albeit with monstrously demonic traits such as a long reptilian arm and leg, a draconic wing and a long horn sticking out of his head on the left side of his body; at least half his face was covered in dark red scales resembling those of a Dragon. Upon undergoing his full Transformation he gained another horn on the other side of his head, his eyes turned yellow with black slits, even more of his face was covered in scales.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
400 years ago, Natsu was born as the younger brother of Zeref and they lived peacefully with their parents in a village. However, Natsu died at a young age alongside their parents courtesy of a Dragon attack. This caused Zeref to enroll at the Mildian Academy of Magic and research Magic Power and its relations to life, death and the Human race. Much later, with Zeref using his dead body (which he preserved) he was revived as the strongest Demon he had ever created: E.N.D., whose purpose was to kill a disheartened Zeref who had become a Cursed and immortal Black Wizard in his quest for a second chance at life through Magic. As E.N.D. he was a Demon specializing in Fire and Flame Magic and purportedly discovered a different route Magic Power could take when it was still developing from the One Primordial Magic and Abyss of Sorcery, thus creating Curse Power: a Power entirely different and independent from Magic fueled by the darkest of emotions.
During this time, he was raised by his older brother who struggled to care for him because his younger brother refused to learn to read or write. At one point, Zeref met the mighty dragon Igneel by chance and they became friends. The Fire Dragon King opted to raise the child himself, well aware of the child being a demon but chose to not kill him because he loved him too much to do so; Igneel preferred to say he could not destroy E.N.D. because of the Demon's true strength, though it is possible this could've been verified if he really chose to fight E.N.D.
From that point on Igneel taught Natsu how to talk, write and use his own signature form of Lost Magic called Fire Dragon Slayer Magic; Igneel ultimately chose, like four other Dragons of that time period to Seal his damaged Soul inside Natsu's body and leap 400 years into the future, recover his strength with the high Ethernano concentrations and kill Acnologia. Zeref helped in this plan, as he wanted Acnologia dead but also wanted his brother to get stronger to be able to destroy him. To that end, he went through with creating the Eclipse Gate, so the dragon slayers could cross over. While initially thought to have been abandoned by Igneel on July 7, X777, it was actually the day and year he awoke in the future like the other Dragon Slayers.
The departure of E.N.D. from the past also gave rise to many legends about the strongest Demon from Zeref's works, including his creation and leading of Tartaros when Mard Geer Tartaros actually happened upon the Book of E.N.D., using it to unify the Etherious and other Demons under a single cause and was the one who created the Dark Guild while naming it after himself and the fact he was the most vile creation in the Books of Zeref, the Black Wizard's library of works. Mard Geer and the other demons had never actually seen their supposed master and assumed he was sealed in book form. Being the creator, Zeref was the only person to know the appearance and truth of what happened tp E.N.D., living out the four hundred years waiting for him. He also kept a pendant that contained a picture of himself and his brother as children to remind him of the person capable of killing him.
Synopsis[]
Tartaros arc[]
Believing E.N.D. to be in a dormant state, Tartaros planned to use a weapon called Face (a Magic Elimination System consisting of a series of Anti-Magic Pulse Bombs originally created by the Magic Council as a deterrent against the forces of Zeref's Alvarez Empire) to wipe out all Magic Power on the continent of Ishgar so they could gather enough Curse Power to revive their Master and "return" to Zeref with him.
Mard Geer was seen on his throne holding E.N.D.'s Tome as he talked about Zeref's Demons the Etherious: beings superior to Humans. Seemingly reassuring the Dark Guild's Master, Mard Geer stated that the darkness of the "Netherworld gate" would soon open and eat up the world's light.
Following the lethal deactivation of (only one) Face by Wendy Marvell and Carla, Kyôka reported to Mard Geer urging him to consider reviving their Master through more forceful means to assist them. However, the Underworld King informed her there was too much Magic Power present in the world for E.N.D. to properly resuscitate and though Kyôka reminded him that was the entire point of using Face he stated their plans would still come to fruition.
Mard Geer would later go on to explain to Natsu, Sting Eucliffe and Rogue Cheney that E.N.D. was actually Tartaros and the Etherious' real Master, Natsu wanted to take the Book supposedly containing him and it was Magic Power itself that kept him Sealed away causing the Fire Dragon Slayer to realize the Etherious' goal of using the remaining Faces to erase E.N.D.'s only means of imprisonment and unleash him on the Magic World once more so they could meet their own maker; the Underworld King also told Natsu and Gray the story of how E.N.D. discovered Curses in the earliest days of Magic when it was still undeveloped.
Zeref reappeared after Mard Geer's defeat and the Face System's destruction to interrupt the argument between Natsu and Gray on who would take the Book of E.N.D. He summoned the Book to his hand, claiming it was something very important that belonged to him. Zeref then praised Mard Geer for his attempt to revive E.N.D and when Mard Geer stated he could realize what Zeref wished for the Black Wizard turned the fallen Demon into another Book and burned it. He then vanished yet again, taking the Book of E.N.D. and seemingly the Demon with him as well.
Later at an unknown location, Zeref ominously remarked that Natsu had to try and overtake him, though not before calling the Dragon Slayer "Etherious Natsu Dragneel" revealing that Natsu was actually the Demon itself.
Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry[]
E.N.D. appearing at last.
During the final battle with Animus, Natsu unwittingly unleashed the Power of E.N.D. for the first time in over 400 years after being mortally wounded by the Dragon with the Power of the Dragon Cry. Despite his seemingly-incomplete form Animus soon recognized Natsu as E.N.D., proclaiming him to be a harbinger of doom (though the Dragon was cut off before he could finish) and the Dragon Slayer used his new Powers to defeat Animus. Natsu returned to normal soon after the fight though left utterly shell-shocked by his Transformation.
Alvarez Empire arc[]
While invading Ishgar (with no one aware of his true plan during this time), Zeref awaited his impending his confrontation with Natsu after learning he was approaching, thinking his death by Natsu could be an alternate solution to end his suffering in case his plan to obtain Fairy Heart might possibly fail. Once Natsu killed several of his soldiers, Zeref appeared before him and Natsu remarked that he came quick, with the latter stating he really wanted to see him. The two brothers stared each other down before a fight broke out.
During the fight between Zeref and Natsu, the dragon slayer showcased new power that Zeref has never seen before (which is in fact a small amount of Igneel's full power that Natsu can use for only a small amount of attacks) and the dragon slayer greatly overpowered the Black Wizard. Eventually pleased by this feat (including how his power could actually kill him), Zeref stopped the fight to praise him and stated he had always hoped for this to come before he finally revealed his relationship to Natsu and the Dragon Slayer's status as E.N.D. Though a shocked Natsu refused to believe it at first, he was forced to reconsider after Zeref cleared up everything about his demon identity and pierced a hole through the Book of E.N.D. and Natsu ended up hurt as a result which proved the elder Dragneel's story. However, even after Zeref revealed what really occurred in the past, Natsu (despite hearing everything) doesn't want to believe him and instead relentlessly attempts to kill his brother and he was told that if Zeref died it would effectively mean his own death as well, as he was his creation. Natsu ignored this and declared his intentions of wanting to kill Zeref, declaring his story doesn't change a thing. Zeref was pleased by the resolve and stated this was his sole chance of stopping him only for Happy to interfere and fly away with the protesting Natsu (using up all of the power by Igneel). A tearful Zeref bade his younger brother farewell (and is saddened that Igneel's power has been completely used up), as there was nothing stopping him.
Because the alternate plan to be killed by Natsu failed, Zeref continued his plan to invade Ishgar with the Springgan 12 to find Fairy Heart, fighting against anyone who would stand in their way. Zeref also continued trying his best to suppress his true, kind self in the arc to control his curse to go on with his plan and to avoid struggling as much on what to do in very conflicting situations. Knowing that every guild in Ishgar would think that he is evil no matter what he does, Zeref tried sacrificing his true self long enough before he could obtain Mavis' power. In addition, he never told any of the Springgan 12 his true plan, most likely because he knew there is a very small chance they would allow him to do what he really wanted with the power of Fairy Heart, even if Zeref's plan was extremely complicated.
Natsu later reflected on what Zeref told him, before Happy gave him reassurance. However, the two shared an emotional moment and vowed to find a way to defeat Zeref without endangering Natsu's life. Natsu soon collapsed from is believed to have been an Anti-Ethernano Tumor caused by Magic Power abuse, but he is brought back to the Guild and it is shrunk down and Natsu recovered.
Natsu and Lucy were later captured by Dimaria, one of the Spriggan 12 who spent her time torturing Lucy as Natsu remained unconscious. Just when Lucy was about to have her eyes stabbed out, the Power of E.N.D. was unleashed due to Brandish μ having tampered with what was believed to have been an Anti-Ethernano Tumor caused by Magic Power abuse. This allowed him to wake up at the last moment and break free of his restraints, completely able to move while in range of Dimaria's Time Magic and proceeded to brutally beat and burn the surprised woman, saving Lucy. After soundly defeating Dimaria, Natsu/E.N.D. went to check on Lucy but after failing to wake up the unresponsive Lucy (who was still affected by Dimaria's Magic) he breaks down which causing his demonic instincts and powers to possess him. He escaped the chamber and started hunting Zeref while burning alive any enemy who stood in his path as he pinpointed Zeref and began to make his move only to be confronted by Gray following his battle with Invel Yura, another of the Spriggan 12. Gray and E.N.D. mercilessly attacked each other without any hesitation. The Ice Demon Slayer and Fire Demon seemed evenly matched until they were stopped by Erza Scarlet. Erza made the two come to their senses and Natsu's Transformation diminished and he falls unconscious when seeing Lucy alive.
A while later, Natsu is guided through his subconscious and sees his past with Zeref and their parents, as well what led up to his first death and revival as E.N.D., greatly shocking him. It is also revealed Natsu lost his memory of these events, due to Igneel using the Dragon Soul Seal to prevent his dragon transformation and the spell causes memory damage: explaining why Natsu didn't recognize Zeref on Tenrou Island or his past friendship with the other dragon slayers. Not too long after, Natsu's demon programming caused him to mutter his desire to defeat Zeref while asleep but this caused Happy to break and accidentally reveal to some of the Fairy Tail Wizards and Spriggan 12 wizards that if Zeref dies then Natsu will die along with him, something that startles them. Natsu later learns from an apparition of Igneel that there is another seed called demon seed, which is the embodiment of his demon status and how it is trying to merge with the dragon seed and the unstable process is likely why he would die. After being given a choice to pick being a dragon or demon, he chooses neither and overcomes his pain by asserting that he was human.
However, despite constantly thinking throughout the arc about the time Zeref talked to him during their first fight (including how much Zeref really wanted to sacrifice his life for humanity, even expressing how much he loves his little brother so much), Natsu straight up disregarded everything he learned (including how his older brother's curse worked) upon finding Zeref again in the Fairy Tail building, with Natsu taking all of Zeref's words and actions at face value and not once trying to find out or understand why he did all the things he did in the Alvarez Empire Arc (despite seeing more than once how much Zeref loved him and wanted to give his life for all of mankind, which should have made Natsu wonder about the mysterious nature of his brother). Natsu, choosing to be blatantly relentless in resenting and finding the worst his brother, brutally fought against him a second time, viewing him as nothing but a threat to the people he cares about. Eventually, Natsu found himself overpowered by Zeref, who of course had the upper hand, having far greater experience and Power compared to his younger brother and is knocked him away with a kick so powerful as to launch Natsu even though he blocked it, even pointing out how Natsu can't kill him anymore because he can't use Igneel's power on him anymore. Natsu and Zeref then sensed Acnologia again and decided to take things more seriously. Zeref steadily dominated Natsu more, with Natsu seemingly failing to land any more blows than he did before until Natsu catches him off-guard.
As the fight went on, Natsu improved and started to match Zeref (who unfortunately starts losing control of his true self eventually when the curse starts taking over his mind and rendering him unstable, something the curse does at random times), who tells Natsu he is experiencing a new emotion, which he can't tell is due to his Curse or his own emotion but admits he is enjoying himself. When Natsu is overcome by a sensation, Zeref notices this and is surprised to see it was caused by Larcade who calls out to him. Natsu was surprised Larcade called Zeref his father while the latter tells Zeref that while Natsu is flustered, he should hurry and kill him to be rid of his influence and revels in the chance to kill Natsu but his actions only anger the currently out-of-control Zeref, who blasts a hole through Larcade while telling not to interrupt the fight, while freeing Natsu who was shocked by this act. Natsu witnessed Zeref coldly stomping on Larcade's wound, while stating he had no son (not that he knew of, at least) and Larcade was another Etherious who was one of his many attempts at reviving Natsu and creating E.N.D. He states out of those, he came out the best and he was given the last name "Dragneel" as a reward. Natsu watched as Larcade tried to plea but Zeref's unstable state expressed his anger at Larcade for interrupting the fight between him and Natsu as he was finally enjoying himself for real, before he beats and calls Larcade a failure and ultimately destroys him after his protests, earning a punch from Natsu (who blindly believes Zeref is doing all of this on his own free will).
Still not in control of himself, Zeref reflected on his past with an unstable way of speaking by stating he tried so hard to find happiness for many years, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stop being an unintentional problem to anyone, because his true self only kills any living thing he cares about. This caused Natsu to grab him and foolishly yell that he was to make his own happiness in order to have a family, despite the fact that Zeref further made it obvious that he really couldn't find happiness because of his curse. He even told Zeref if he would claim he didn't have a family any bond they shared was gone, with Natsu finally admitting to Zeref as he is his brother, but using acknowledgement of their relation to callously disown him for all the things he unwillingly said under the curse's control (even though Natsu has heard Mavis explain to him about how the curse can sometimes take control over his mind, and Natsu can even clearly see this while fighting Zeref right now, including how Zeref was suddenly behaving differently). Zeref was startled but shrugged it off to continue the fight while calling Natsu his demon name. During the fight, Zeref's state became more erratic and continued to call his brother his demon identity, as the latter firmly told him what his name was, even viewing Zeref as intentionally insane and distorted while foolishly berating him for something he really couldn't control. After a grueling fight, Zeref overpowered Natsu and trapped him in tendrils made of dark energy, before he announced his actual plan in using Fairy Heart (which he inadvertently revealed to Natsu while making a creepy smile and saying some things in a cold and sadistic way, because of the curse unable to make him think, act, and say things on will); Zeref's true plan was to in fact use a spell called Neo Eclipse, to restart the timeline before he became immortal and to undo all the unintentionally horrible things he has done, so that nobody would be hurt by him, and that Natsu would even be human again (where Zeref wouldn't have to make complications in Natsu's original life, even if he only did it as a selfless attempt to sacrifice himself). Furthermore, once the timeline has been reset, Natsu and Zeref can even kill Acnologia in the past. However, despite hearing this, Natsu stated that it would seemingly ruin everything that he knew, and even treats him as though he's deliberately trying to waste everyone's efforts in living in the current timeline, even though it's way more complicated than that, because of Zeref's curse.
Mavis Vermillion managed to obtain the Book of E.N.D. She then met up with Lucy, Happy and Gray and lent them the Book. Happy pointed out it was Natsu's Book and Lucy realized she was literally holding his life in her hands. Mavis then left them to work on a plan to beat Zeref. Lucy, Happy and Gray sat on a bench looking over the Book. They soon decided to open the Book and when they did Letter Magic flowed out of it; Lucy was shocked about what it said.
Lucy tried to rewrite the words in the Book but became affected by its Black Magic. Gray then helps her get through the pain and continues to rewrite the book. The book's changes affected Natsu during his fight with his brother; they gave Natsu the edge he needed to defeat Zeref. Mavis steps in and gives Zeref a final chance to stop everything. Zeref grabs Mavis and the latter tells him that she has found a way to kill him and end his suffering, but Zeref (naturally giving up after way too many attempts for so many years) tells her that he has already tried every method to die and that even Natsu couldn't end him (even including Mavis' insufficient love for him, revealed later on). Mavis then asks why he fears Acnologia despite saying there's no other way to die, and Zeref reveals out of knowledge that Acnologia has gained too much power and will bring ruin to Earth while using Zeref and Mavis as immortal chew-toys for eternity, and there is a high amount of chance he will succeed in his annihilation. Mavis tells him that she has found her own way of stopping Acnologia, and Zeref believes her, but he still chooses to go with his plan, as he has naturally given up trying to die after far too many attempts and he doesn't want to be the cause of any more innocent lives suffering in the current timeline. He begins absorbing the power of Fairy Heart from a screaming Mavis (while slowly regaining control of his true self) and tells her his true plan, that he still start over his life before he became immortal, and he will no longer be an unintentional threat to anyone, but he is sad that he won't be able to meet Mavis again after resetting the timeline (as Mavis was born many decades after him). However, Zeref's self-loathing made him believe Mavis' life would be better without him (even though they got along so well), because Zeref felt like he left a negative impact on her life overall because of all the bad things he indirectly caused throughout his life, feeling ashamed for everything. However, Zeref promises her that he will kill Acnologia in the past before he gains too much power, and that Natsu can fight alongside him too. Zeref says that he will ensure humanity has a future, since all he ever wanted was to set everything right when he couldn't do it for hundreds of years.
Natsu sees and hears everything Zeref says to Mavis (even witnessing his brother slowly revert to his true self while expressing to Mavis what he really wants), and after Zeref drains all of Mavis' power (which leaves her unconscious), Natsu runs to her but Zeref tells him that she is not dead but has lost too much magic and won't be able to stand. Now finally obtaining the power, Zeref transforms into a god-like form, were now has limitless magic power that transcends through space and time. Enraged and still forcefully trying to find the worst in Zeref, Natsu unleashes an attack charged by his Dragon Force form and ruthlessly attempts to obliterate his brother, not the least bit conflicted nor reluctant to have Zeref killed. Zeref reminds him that he had to resort to this since Natsu couldn't kill him, but Natsu just continues to charge at him. Natsu's powerful attack destroyed Zeref (seemingly) and obliterated the guild hall; Natsu apologized to Makarov but Zeref rewound time and repaired everything easily ending the fight by punching a hole through Natsu's chest, killing him to avoid any more distractions (along with the fact that Zeref can't value his life because of his curse). As he let Natsu fall, he said he didn't need to apologize to Makarov who was already dead and bade Natsu farewell again.
Zeref opened the Ravines of Time in the door of the guild hall, glad that he might finally be able to fix everything after too many years of suffering and that he couldn't help anyone in the current timeline due to his curse. He promises to never repeat the same mistake of cursing himself again and hopes that he can save humanity, even retaining his memories of the current timeline so that he would know what to do once he restarts everything. Zeref slowly walks to the portal (which would erase the current timeline), but then hears Natsu awaken behind him, with his injuries healed thanks to Lucy rewriting the book of E.N.D. and he takes on a surprised Zeref one final time. He repeatedly strikes Zeref out of anger and the Black Wizard asks out of annoyance how much Natsu will stand in his way until he is satisfied, with Natsu replying that he will not quit until he can laugh and smile with all the others again. Zeref reminds him that his plan of resetting the timeline is precisely what he's trying to do to make Natsu happy and to fix everything, but Natsu angrily and foolishly responds that Zeref is only caring about himself while trying to deny the existence of the current timeline without anything reasonable (even though it's painfully obvious that Zeref really cannot value the lives of others because of his curse). Frustrated, Zeref tells Natsu that he has never known what it's like for those who suffered rejection for hundreds of years, but Natsu still doesn't listen and instead charges his power with an unstable rage (not even using any forms), and Zeref uses his curse to charge his own power, transforming dark matter into powerful energy.
As the two collide their final attack and send a powerful blow inside the entire guild hall, Zeref eventually realizes that Natsu is beginning to overpower him with an overheating fire that is charged by his unstable anger (with is also gruesomely burning Natsu's arm in the process while mutilating his own soul), and Zeref couldn't counterattack because he doesn't have Natsu's kind of unstable rage (along with the fact that Zeref cannot fight at his full potential even with Fairy Heart due to his true, kind self rendering him unable to unleash his dark magic at its most dangerous). After a certain amount of time, Zeref gets brutally knocked and incapacitated by Natsu's destabilized attack, sending him crashing into the floor. After a moment of silence, Zeref realized that for the first time in his entire existence even though he still had Fairy Heart his body could not move. He feels disbelief that he may truly be dying and reasons with himself that this doesn't necessarily mean death for him, and he will surely recover in a little while, as Fairy Heart's power presumably left him. Exhausted from everything, Natsu leaves Mavis to do the rest and leaves her and Zeref alone, sarcastically saying "Later, Big Bro." while giving a small wave to Zeref (as Natsu treats Zeref's death as nothing that matters to him and that during this time, Natsu believes that Happy, Lucy, Gray, and the others are the only things that matter to him).
After Natsu left, Zeref wonders if he lost the battle before Mavis tells him that she can never forgive him for threatening the people she cares about, saying that she will rid him from this world as someone who cares more about tightly knit bonds over blood, with Zeref replying that his death by Mavis wouldn't be a bad thing, but he really wishes that he could've set everything right when he couldn't for centuries. Despite what Mavis just said however, Mavis immediately apologized to Zeref for not having enough faith in him. Even after Mavis learned about his full story and difficult life, she initially had some doubt towards Zeref after learning that he's the wizard who has been considered by many as the most evil mage in history, and she even developed conflicting feelings after their encounter that took place after the Grand Magic Games (being unsure of what Zeref's true goals are and if he actually wants to threaten humanity or not, especially since Mavis has seen his kindness as well), leading to Mavis finding it hard to think straight and calculate everything, even when she fought against him for much of the arc and tried protecting everyone in Ishgar from the invasion, and Mavis' plan of expressing her love for him (which she came up with during the middle act of the arc) was something she's not sure will work due to how unsure she was about what is the truth about Zeref. However, Zeref doesn't blame her and instead understood her as it's not easy to fully understand someone in his situation. Ultimately however, Mavis eventually developed full faith in Zeref after fully realizing everything, including his true plan, leading to Mavis realizing that Zeref was never in the wrong and only tried his best in his circumstances. However, when Mavis finally realized what she had to do to end his suffering, she started breaking down sobbing because expressing her love for Zeref would mean that they wouldn't be together. Zeref, on the other hand, felt touched by the fact that Mavis loved him and thanked her for everything, even apologizing to her because he would have to leave her if she expressed her true feelings towards him. However, Mavis eventually accepted the outcome and chose to show her true feelings for Zeref, kissing him. After being loved by Mavis, Zeref felt truly happy, but Mavis requested to die with him. After Zeref accidentally expressed his feelings for Mavis again by saying she has to continue living, he felt a bit guilty killing her a second time, but he's also happy that he gets to spend more time with her after so long. As the both of them finally died in peace, Zeref once again showed remorse for his past and wished he could have made amends with his younger brother and everyone else. Before he ascended to the afterlife, he left his pendant in the living world and wanted Natsu to find it. Although Zeref failed in his attempt to reset the timeline and make a better future for humanity, he hoped that he could at least let Natsu know how much he truly cared about him as his brother.
When the Book of E.N.D. disappeared, Lucy claimed that she did all she could to help Natsu and worried that he could disappear along with the Book. However, Natsu showed up where Lucy and the others were while saying the fight was over.
Around that moment, Acnologia managed to escape the Time Lapse and with it's magical power he pulls all the Dragon Slayers into the Ravines of Time where Acnologia faced the former Demon. However, this caused Gray, Happy and Lucy to believe Natsu disappeared because of his link with deceased Zeref. This caused Lucy to drop to her knees crying believing Natsu was gone forever, not knowing he was still alive and well along with the seven remaining Dragon Slayers of Ishgar who were facing down Acnologia's Human form in the Ravines of Time while the Black Dragon's Dragon form came out from the Ravines along with a weakened Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki and Anna Heartfilia instead of his Human form despite linking their minds and lives with the latter form coming to destroy Magnolia. Erza later tells Lucy's group of Natsu's real fate, to their relief.
As Lucy found the Magic guide book Mavis left behind Meredy used her Maguilty Sense Magic to connect every one of Fairy Tail's allies both near and far; the Fairy Tail Guild and countless others used their bonds to strengthen the Spell Fairy Sphere's Magic Seal on Acnologia's Dragon form, also affecting his Human form and allowing Natsu to finish Acnologia once and for all; the dying Black Dragon deemed Natsu worthy of inheriting the title of Dragon King but the adoptive son of Igneel happily denied this for his peaceful desire to just be with his friends. As the war officially ended, Natsu and the other Dragon Slayers returned to the real world safely as Acnologia's Human and Dragon forms disappeared.
Aftermath with Zeref[]
After Acnologia's defeat, Natsu and his friends celebrate their victory and some of them see Zeref and Mavis reincarnated as new people with different personalities and they spend time together. Natsu is glad when he realizes Zeref and Mavis died peacefully, though Natsu still believed his brother was still in the wrong during the Alvarez Empire Arc and that his death was deserving. Later on, Natsu and his team begin the 100 Year Quest to face off against the 5 dragon gods. During the Aldoron Arc, when Natsu briefly went to a near-death experience by Ghost Dragon Wraith, he finds Zeref and Mavis in beta heaven and is happy that they're finally living in peace while taking care of their children, August and Larcade. Natsu forgives Zeref after seeing him no longer a threat. However, Natsu forgets forgiving Zeref after waking up, as anyone who wakes up will forget everything he saw in beta heaven.
However, it isn't long before Natsu encountered Wolfen (one of Aldoron's allies) who has the ability to copy the abilities of a powerful being a person knows after scanning his/her head. When Wolfen first attempted to scan Natsu, he instead transformed into Happy (who is extremely weak), much to Wolfen's shock and confusion. Natsu tells him that he's been thinking of Happy a lot lately so that could be the reason, before knocking away an annoyed Wolfen. Natsu then comes up with a plan to stop Aldoron; the moment Wolfen scans him again, Natsu deliberately tried thinking of Zeref (because Zeref is the most powerful person Natsu knows) and Wolfen copied the black wizard's abilities from his curse. The moment Wolfen expressed his loyalty to Aldoron (after Natsu purposely asks him how he views the Dragon God), Natsu ran away as Wolfen realized that his value towards Aldoron triggered the curse and severely weakened him. As Natsu ran away, it was only at that time when he realized how complicated Zeref really was and the look on Natsu's face showed he began to feel remorse for everything he said and did towards his brother when he was still alive, apologizing to the real Zeref in the heavens and finally beginning to understand that he was never in the wrong during the Alvarez Empire Arc and that he really did care about others, including him. Later on, Natsu encounters Aldoron's humanoid form and as the two face off against one another, Aldoron calls him brother of Ignia (who is Igneel's biological son and Natsu's adoptive brother), but the Dragon Slayer tells him that they may share the same dad, but Zeref is his only brother, since Ignia never loved him and that he is nothing like Zeref.
Powers and Abilities[]
E.N.D. was stated to be Zeref's greatest creation and the only one actually capable of slaying the Black Wizard. Silver Fullbuster later revealed to his son Gray that E.N.D. was a Fire Demon. It's been said that even Acnologia, a Dragon Slayer who had killed many powerful Dragons and was referred to as the "Dragon King", feared E.N.D.'s demonic powers.
E.N.D's Powers were so great he surpassed some of the Gods in the series as he was able to easily and freely move about when Dimaria, a Spriggan Shield stopped Time using the Power of the God Chronos and easily defeated the extremely powerful Wizard who was on the same level as former Emperor of Ishgar-ranked Wizard Saint and Natsu's fellow Dragon Slayer God Serena, his might leaving her in absolute awe as she wasn't able to believe he could defy the Power of Gods. He was said to be so powerful that even the Black Dragon Acnologia had a fear of the Fire Demon. He also proved capable of overpowering and killing the Dragon Animus even when he was using the power of the Dragon Cry without much effort. Likewise, Zeref stated that his attempts to create another demon equal to E.N.D's power failed: The demons of Tartaros and even Mard Geer Tartaros not being anywhere near his power aside, even the third strongest member of the Spriggan 12, Larcade Dragneel, who was stated to be capable of rivaling August and Irene Belserion, was still weaker than E.N.D despite being the closest, showing his power at the very least exceeded even the two reputed strongest mages in existence under only Zeref himself. However, it appeared that due to being Sealed by Magic Power E.N.D. could only manifest for a while and reverted to Natsu's maximum Power after that. When fully charged E.N.D. was capable of taking on (and bringing down) the Dragon Animus, who was having his own Power amplified by the artifact known as the Dragon Cry at the time.
As Natsu E.N.D. could use Fire Dragon Slayer Magic, a type of Lost Magic and form of Dragon Slayer Magic which allowed him to manipulate fire as well as be immune to and even consume it to regain energy; unfortunately, he couldn't eat or resist his own Magic Flames or the kind produced by a Flame God Slayer (unless under special circumstances) and the consumption of any slightly non-Flame Magic made him sick to varying degrees after he first used and depleted the Power it gave him; the overall physique his abilities granted him also made him prone to motion sickness, a side-effect of the biological and physiological incompatibilities of Human and Dragon senses.
E.N.D. could also (theoretically) use Curses as Mard Geer stated that E.N.D. was the one who discovered and created Curse Power. However, E.N.D. hadn't been shown using Curses so this is up for debate.

Trivia[]
- There were several hints to Natsu's true origins.
- Natsu's guise as the "Demon Lord Dragneel" in the Edolas arc's finale ironically foreshadowed his origin as E.N.D.; Natsu was originally meant to have horns, perhaps as a nod to his true (half-)Demon nature.
- Before and after this it was noted by many of his opponents that out of all the Fairy Tail Wizards there were, Natsu was the one who always seemed most like a vicious monster when fighting due to his savage ferocity and overall lack of restraint.
- When Lucy & Natsu were on a job to retrieve the book "Daybreak" from Duke Everlue, he was taken to the spirit world while clinging on to Virgo and returned safely, as Lucy noted that no ordinary human can handle that, showing there was more to Natsu.
- Natsu was unable to cross Freed's age barrier, revealing he is older than he knows.
- Gajeel also couldn't cross it because he was born around the same time as Natsu.
- Zeref seemed to know Natsu and was disappointed that Natsu couldn't hurt him, foreshadowing how Zeref always believed that Natsu will get stronger.
- Jackal, another Etherious believed Natsu couldn't be human while unaware of his demon identity.
- E.N.D.was said to be a fire demon, which coincides Natsu using Fire Dragon Slayer Magic.
- Igneel tasked Natsu with getting the book of E.N.D but warned him not to destroy it, since it was linked to Natsu.
- E.N.D is likely the last of Zeref's creations alive, since Lucy was able to destroy his connection to Zeref.
