Edward "Eddie" Brock, also known as Venom, is a major antagonist of the 2008 animated superhero series, The Spectacular Spider-Man. He was a close childhood friend with Peter Parker, whose fathers were colleagues and end up dying together with their mothers thanks to a plane crash, in which Eddie had to fend for himself.
His life then gradually turns to a downward spiral thanks to that and ends up snapping after he lost his job at the Empire State University when the symbiote escaped its containment and latched onto Spider-Man, who was none other than Peter Parker himself, which it takes to its advantage and makes him its host, becoming the supervillain Venom. He is one of Spider-Man's most personal enemies.
He was voiced by Benjamin Diskin who also voiced the Venom symbiote in the same series, Morbius in Ultimate Spider-Man, Harm in Young Justice, The Leader in Marvel Future Avengers, Diaz Arnesto in The Prodigies and Rhino in Marvel Heroes.
Eddie is a bulky and tall man with blonde hair and blue eyes. For most of Season 1, he wore a white t-shirt and a black jacket, but after he bonded with the symbiote, he wears a black t-shirt only, both with brown trousers.
As Venom, he is a hulking version of the Spider-Man symbiote suit, except with a mouth and a protruding tongue.
Personality[]
Eddie earlier was a kind-hearted big brother figure to Peter, having protected him from bullies until he graduated. He was always willing to help anyone who was close to him. Deep down however, Eddie has slowly been affected by loneliness after his parents died, to the point where when Peter enters with Mary Jane and drove Gwen away, Eddie has become angry, showing to be completely weak minded and blind to cost to blame Peter what Eddie did to himself and what the symbiote did to him. Later he took MJ for a ride where he endangers her with stunts while ranting about Peter, she leaves and angrily corrects his false opinions, saying how Peter is actually better and good compared to him. His anger has become tenfold after he lost his job thanks to the symbiote’s escape taking the blame to Spider-Man, who was none other than Peter Parker himself, who then took the picture of it also without calling for help since he was trying to deal with it himself (though it was the Symbiote that escaped on its own).
Due to that, Eddie has grown very spiteful and selfish towards Peter, however, he still cares about everyone else such as Aunt May, visiting her at the hospital after her heart attack, while being angered at Peter for not visiting her sooner (although he wasn't aware that he just now got the news), hypocritically thinking why would Peter even be here. Later he selfishly confronts Peter while visiting Aunt May again, foolishly blaming him for his job, only for Peter (Under the symbiote's influence) finally stands up to Brock grabbing by the shirt back and bashing him against the wall, telling him they're sick of his whining and then pushes him and tells him to leave him alone permanently. Having their friendship fully tainted and put to an end.
When Spider-Man tried destroying the symbiote by freezing it to death, Eddie starts breaking down since the only opportunity he has to get his job back has been ruined, not aware that Spider-Man did it because it is very evil and dangerous, but the symbiote takes notice of Eddie's hatred of both Peter and Spider-Man, and calls to him. After bonding with it, it reveals Peter's identity to him with the memories it got from Peter (but didn’t show any memories that the symbiote itself is at fault for what happened to him) and become the supervillain Venom, Eddie has now become a fully heartless and deranged lunatic, who is willing to murder people whom he once cared about solely to spite Peter, willing to harm countless citizens solely for revenge. Eddie becomes obsessed with his revenge, having driven Peter to paranoia to find where the symbiote was buried and bond with it once more, while being heartbroken when the symbiote abandons him finally now that he is now all alone.
Biography[]
Eddie Brock was the son of Dr. Brock, who was the partner of Dr. Parker. Eddie became good friends with Dr. Parker's son, Peter. Eddie was a big brother to him and has been defending him for years. When Peter was 5, both their parents died on a plane crash. While Peter was sent to live with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May, Eddie had no one else left and suffered from loneliness. After graduating from Midtown High School, Eddie went on to apply as a helper for the Empire State University Labs, and he got his job as the helper of Dr. Curtis and Martha Conners.
Eddie was first introduced in the series premiere, "Survival of the Fittest", reuniting with Peter after a couple of years when Peter started working as an intern.

Eddie (and by extension, Venom), is the only character in the entire series to ever know about Spider-Man's real identity.
Unlike most incarnations of Eddie Brock who's first bonding with the symbiote is usually accidental, this version willingly bonded with it first time.
