Biography[]
Background[]
Wilcox's mother died in childbirth in 1972 Chicago, and his father, Eddie Wilcox Sr., shot himself dead in Los Angeles when Wilcox was five. The young Wilcox was found next to his father's remains the two days he was decaying, until a neighbor noticed the smell, a suicide note for Wilcox on top of several postcards. Wilcox gained a lengthy history of assaults, armed robberies, and car thefts. He Melody Grimes and had their daughter with her, Samantha, supporting his family with the spoils of his criminal career. Melody always worried Wilcox never told the truth about his money, but didn't stress for answers. When Wilcox was arrested on charges of carjacking, Melody successfully secured a divorce and moved with Samantha to Wichita, Kansas. Samantha would still communicate with Wilcox, saying she direly wanted to leave Wichita and bemoaning her circumstances. Wilcox found a partner in crime, mafia affiliate Christopher Corbone, who he met in prison and agreed to heists by the time they were released, but Wilcox never expected their different predispositions. In 2013, stealing 25 grand in cash and jewelry from a pawn shop, Wilcox was horrified when Corbone shot the shop owner and another customer dead in cold blood. Wilcox fought with Corbone, before Corbone tried to shoot Wilcox in the back, over for his gun to jam. In a state of escalated impulse, Wilcox shot Corbone dead and kept shooting his corpse before he ran. With the killings pinned on Wilcox and a price on his head from both the police and Corbone's contacts, Wilcox feared he had no more time and went straight to Wichita to be with Samantha before he couldn't buy any more time in his life.
Route 66[]
Wilcox heads straight for Wichita and follows Samantha when she goes to a lover's lane with her boyfriend Tommy Burns. They kiss, but when that's all Samantha can handle, Burns tries to rape her, resulting in Wilcox yanking Burns out of the car and beating him until he's out cold. Out of paternal instinct, Wilcox is near killing Burns with a crowbar, but Samantha shouts at Wilcox to stop. Coming to his senses, Wilcox leaves Burns and gets Samantha in the car, lying he wants to take her to Mexico with him for a new job. The BAU are called in on concerns of a classic parental abduction, under the concern Wilcox poses a threat to Samantha during his criminal history. After giving Samantha a granola bar when she wakes up, Wilcox apologizes for beating Burns in front of her. Samantha considers places to sight-see on a map when a cop arrives and flashes his lights. Wilcox pulls his gun, but the cruiser drives by then, and Wilcox lies he wouldn't have shop the cop, just moved the gun so they wouldn't find it.
At Amarillo, Wilcox sees gas station owner Damon Turner calling the police on him from recognizing his wanted bulletin information. Wilcox has Samantha make some purchases and go to the hotel room to take a shower. After Wilcox cuts the phone line and buys his own items, Turner moves for his shotgun, but Wilcox shoots him dead before he has a chance to fire. Wilcox then carjacks a vehicle from a car yard, taking a CB radio with him, but Samantha confronts him back at the hotel after watching the news report on his crimes. Wilcox rebuffs the notion of his murders and, after making Samantha change her clothes before they leave, tells Samantha of Corbone's crimes, while leaving out he killed Corbone. He then tries to carjack a motorist in El Paso, but the motorist puts up a fight. Wilcox shoots the man dead while Samantha watches, and after forcing her to drive the car away, he tries to gaslight her by saying she'd be fatherless if he didn't shoot the motorist, then promises in earnest to always be with her and protect her.
Wilcox, with grueling lack of sleep, shows Samantha the beach in LA, before police cruisers engage them in a high speed chase. They stop at a store tent, and after Wilcox threatens to shoot Samantha, he takes them both into the tent to hide. Samantha shouts her revolt from his threat, but Wilcox is in no state to pay attention to her. Agent Jennifer Jareau talks of her sister's suicide to get Wilcox to surrender and release Samantha, but Wilcox destroys the phone she calls him on. He forces Samantha to leave, but after she starts walking away, she goes back and pleads with him to remember he promised to protect her and never leave her, wanting to keep in touch with postcards. Wilcox agrees, having Samantha go ahead of him, then following unarmed close behind. The father and daughter share one final hug before Wilcox is arrested, then eventually imprisoned for his crimes.
