Upwards of $100,000, keeping in mind that this is a ballpark figure. We're willing to provide the proper equipment needed for excavation; however, the more independently you are able to work, the more compensation I can offer. We'd still like to see the lab completed in 12 months time, but what's most important is that it's done right. Eddie M.N. Ritterman is a supporting antagonist of the 2021 indie horror game Poppy Playtime.
He was one of the higher-ups at Playtime Co. and its Head of Research, having supervised the construction of several places in the company in secrecy as part of the Bigger Bodies Initiative.
He was voiced by Chris Tester.
Personality[]
Eddie Ritterman remained enigmatic towards much of the company, with many employees not even seeing him or knowing he existed. Ritterman, from the little we hear about him, is a remorseless businessman who willingly participates in the systematic torture of children for profit. Eddie presents himself as ready to jump to the first solution, being the first one to suggest killing Sawyer after the theatre fire incident. When the lead of Warrenbach is left distraught over what they have to build, Eddie threatens the old man into submission while claiming everything they do is for "the better." He does still care for his staff, however, as he is unhappy about how Sawyer is recklessly treating them.
Biography[]
At some point in time he began working for Playtime Co. and became one of its higher ups as the Head of Research. However he was rarely seen by the staff and employees to the point many believed he didn't even exist. He would be tasked with supervising many of the building projects for the company by hiring Warrenbach construction like The Game Station and the Labs to help further the Bigger Bodies Initiative. At one point he also instructed Warrenbach to build a prison for the experiments although he didn't tell them it's true purpose. When one of the Warrenbach employee questioned what it was for Eddie was quick to remind them of their contract and even subtly threatened to murder him if he did not comply.
Eventually in 1993, Eddie, Stella and Leith held a meeting to discuss the recent theater fire incident. Eddie claims he cleaned it up as best he could and any traces of what happened will be nothing but rumors outside the company walls. When Leith gets angry and threatens to kill whomever was responsible Eddie tries to convince him to think rationally. Soon Gerad Lockehart enters the room and reveals that the culprit behind the theater fire was none other than the head of the Bigger Bodies Initiative, Dr. Harley Sawyer.
Eddie, Stella and Leith have another meeting discussing Sawyer and his reckless actions. Eddie is tired of the Doctor and immediately suggests killing him but Leith refuses as he is too important to the Bigger Bodies Initiative. Eddie questions what they are going to do with him since they cannot kill him. Leith then gets the idea to transform him into an experiment himself to use as another slave for the company. It is unknown if Eddie survived the Hour of Joy where nearly all the employees were killed by the experiments.
Trivia[]
- One of the voices the Prototype uses near the end of Chapter 4 is that of Eddie saying "Try to land on your feet". This suggests Eddie had killed someone by pushing them to a hole underground.
- Eddie is believed by many of the staff at Playtime Co. to be an enigmatic figure to the point some question if he exists at all. However an employee known as "P.W" correctly believes he does.
- Eddie is the first and so far only person in the game to gratuitously swear (rightly) calling Harley Sawyer a "Son of a Bitch". However amusingly enough the subtitles censor the phrase by having it being shown as one whole word.
- Despite being Head of Research for the company, he is not actually a scientist and even calls himself more of a "businessman". It is possible this title is fake to hide his true role in the company.
- Eddie is the second character in the series to speak with a British accent the first being Harley Sawyer.
