Gage. He's in the Chamber of Commerce. He's in with all those momzers. He blocked every proposal I ever put forward. Kike this and kike that. He's been trying to ruin my business for years!
~ Kalou to Phelps, explaining his motive.

Edgar Kalou is a minor antagonist in the 2011 video game L.A. Noire.

He was a jewelry store owner who was discriminated against shoe store owner Everett Gage, who used his position in the Chambers of Commerce to block Kalou's propositions to hurt his business. Having enough of Gage after losing a sale, Kalou murdered him in public, but was later arrested by patrolmen Cole Phelps.

He was voiced and motion captured by Michael B. Silver.

Biography[]

Background[]

Not much is known about Edgar Kalou's past, but he was born around 1907-1908 and was of Jewish descent, and he had great pride of his heritage. Despite this, he faced discrimination as a result of his heritage, which caused Edgar to become angry anytime he dealt with antisemitism. Around the 1940s, Kalou became the owner of Hartfield's Jewelry Store, where he had some success but was discriminated against by Everett Gage. The shoe store owner would not only insult Kalou due to his heritage, but used his position in the Chamber of Commerce to block any of Edgar's propositions. A year before the events of "Buyer Beware", Kalou sold pearl earrings to Gage's employee Clovis Galletta, but she would pay for them via installments for months.

L.A. Noire[]

In 1947, Gage saw Galletta browsing through Hartfield's and insulted Kalou before telling Clovis that everything in the store was junk. Losing a sale and having enough of Everett's discrimination, Kalou followed Gage to his store and shot him back before placing his gun in a nearby thrash bin and returning to Hartfield's. Though he initially believed that he would get away with his crime, he was found by patrolmen Cole Phelps and Ralph Dunn from Galletta's testimony and his handgun being tracked back at a gun store. When the officers asked for Kalou's whereabouts, Edgar attempted to lie that he was back before attempting to escape. He was then arrested and interrogated by Phelps, who managed to get an confession of murdering Gage.
