Edith Anthrope, better known as Miss Anthrope or by her supervillain alter-ago Clogneta, is a supporting antagonist in the Captain Underpants franchise.
Miss Anthrope is the school secretary at Jerome Horwitz Elementary School, who, like the rest of the staff, is sadistic, abusive and hates children.
She also has the supervillain alter-ago Clogneta after being turned into a monster in an episode of The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, “The Problematic Pandemonium of the Punishing Plungerina”.
She was voiced by Grey Griffin in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, who also voiced Vicky in The Fairly Oddparents, Azula in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Asajj Ventress in Star Wars: Clone Wars, Mandy in both Grim & Evil and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Catwoman in Batman: Injustice, Vexus in Crossy Road: The Series, the High Priestess in Samurai Jack, Major Doctor Ghastly in Evil Con Crane, Dewdrop in Onward, and Delilah Briarwood in The Legend of Vox Machina, and Patty Mattson in The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, who also voiced Sylvanas Windrunner in Warcraft.
Appearance[]
????
Personality[]
Like most of the staff at Jerome Horwitz Elementary, Miss Anthrope is cruel and could care less about the children's well-being. She is usually apathetic about everything and hates being bossed around by Mr. Krupp. She could most likely be cruel because she lets herself be bossed around and may want to demonstrate that she shouldn't be bossed around. She is also willing to assault Melvin just because he irritated her.
Despite being cruel, she has moments of kindness as she wanted to bring balloons and colors to make the school dance more enjoyable, and when Mr. Krupp is demoted to vice principal by Melvinborg, she offers him some of her jellies as a gesture of sympathy.
As Clogneta, she becomes overly dramatic and over-expressive as she revels in her powers and desire to rule the world.
Biography[]
In the books[]
She first appears in the novels in Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets, where she is one of the teachers who is eaten by the Talking Toilets after humiliating George Beard and Harold Hutchins for their suspension.
In Captain Underpants and the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds), she and the other teachers and students were turned into zombie nerds by Zorx, Klax & Jennifer. She also ate a large chunk of Mr. Krupp's desk. They are then rescued by George, Harold and Captain Underpants.
In Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants, George and Harold are banned from a school field trip to the Piqua Pizza Palace; instead, they has to clean the staff room. When the teachers and students return from the field trip, she along with Mr. Krupp, Mr. Meaner, Ms. Ribble, Miss Calculator, and Mr. Rected bully George and Harold. Tired of bullying them, they head back to the staff room, but what they didn't count on was that George and Harold had pranked the place. She is last seen at the end of the book, where she tries to get George and Harold to stop skateboarding in the hallway by snapping her fingers, accidentally turning Mr. Krupp into Captain Underpants.
In Captain Underpants and the Wicked Wedgie Woman, she orders George and Harold to distribute the Friday Memo to all of the schools on her behalf. When she went, the boys redid them. When Mr. Krupp hands Ms. Ribble Harold's card, she believes he has proposed to her. Ms. Anthrope claims to have organized everything and although she is not seen at the wedding, she most likely appeared because of her enthusiasm and was most likely splashed with food in Mrs. Ribble's tantrum.
She is captured by the Bionic Booger Boy in Captain Underpants and the Big Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy - Part 1: The Night of the Nasty Nostril Nuggets, Captain Underpants recuses her but she kisses him with a lot of slobber for saving her, turning him back to Mr. Krupp.
When Melvin's and Mr. Krupp's brains are switched around in Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy - Part 2: The Revenge of the Ridiculous Robo-Boogers, Mr. Krupp (now known as Kruppy the Kid) demands Ms. Anthrope for coffee. However, she gives him a wedgie and hangs him from a hook. She is shown with a crowd that Captain Underpants (Captain Kruppy the Underpants Kid) irritated while in Melvin's body, and the crowd chases the real Melvin all across town.
Miss Anthrope can be seen briefly in Captain Underpants and the Preposterous Plight of the Purple Potty People teasing a student that tripped on Mr. Meaner's leg and fell down the stairs. Later, her kind counterpart from an alternate universe can be seen happily greeting the real George and Harold, much to their confusion.
In Captain Underpants and the Tyrannical Retaliation of the Turbo Toilet 2000, Miss Anthrope is first seen congratulating Mr. Krupp for punishing George and Harold for not coming to school on Test Day. She is also the first of the teachers to convince herself that she is in a dream and therefore can do whatever she wants, when she found George and Harold in the act of printing copies of their new comic in her office.
Ms. Anthrope called Ms. Ribble and asked her to send the yesterday guys to her office after George assured her that she was dreaming. She was persuaded that she was dreaming when Yesterday George and Yesterday Harold entered the office, and that she could do whatever she wanted. So she strips down to her bra and panties, and the other instructors follow in, and the entire school goes crazy, while Mr. Krupp is surprised to see two Georges and two Harolds. The cops arrived and arrested all of the teachers (including Ms. Anthrope) and took them to jail and sending Mr. Krupp to the goof house, however, despite that, she and the other teachers escape in the next book, Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-A-Lot.
In Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-A-Lot, she and the rest of the faculty members take full advantage of Mr. Meaner's spray that brainwashes students into mindless servants to enslaved them into cleaning their cars and mowing their lawns. George and Harold however turn this against them by dressing up as adults and ordering the kids to prank the faculty and commit property damage.
In the movie[]
In the movie she is a minor character, she appears when George and Harold try to break into Mr. Krupp’s office to take Melvin's turtle. To divert her attention, George phones her in the voice of a game show host and urges her to kindly hold if she wants to win $1 billion. Anthrope gullibly purchases it and, enthralled by it, places it on hold and remains frozen for the rest of the film. When George calls her again in the post credit scene, Anthrope is so astonished that she drops her phone exactly in the position of hanging it up. She cries and rages after realizing she "lost" her chance to win $1 billion.
In the TV Series[]
She make several appearances in the TV Series, such as simply asks, "Did you call me?" whenever Mr. Krupp complains in the building. Mr. Krupp typically responds, "No!" She generally exclaims, "FINE!" angrily, and slams the door after she has finished explaining why she came: "Cause I thought I heard-" Mr. Krupp always interrupts her and once she has finished, Mr. Krupp always answers, "No!" again
