I am the most rational being you will ever meet!
~ Nefarious/Edward's most famous quote
Edward's crazy, James! You know that! You know that what you're about to do is wrong! It's wrong; it's murder, James! After all, James, I'm just a figment of his imagination. Isn't that right? Isn't that right, Jimmy?
~ The end of Nefarious/Edward's villainous breakdown as he shouts at Dr. James Martin about Edward's mental status after being beaten by the prison guards for trying to strangle him.
What's your answer, James? Do you accept my master's offer? Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin.
~ Nefarious/Edward's last words as he is sitting in the electric chair, to Dr. Martin

Edward Wayne Brady, possessed by the demon Nefariamus "Nefarious", is the main antagonist of the 2023 Cary Soloman and Chuck Konzelman film Nefarious, which is based on the 2016 novel A Nefarious Plot by Steve Deace.

He is a serial killer who was sentenced to death for several murders that he committed under the possession of Nefarious, and is awaiting execution in the electric chair. He is Dr. James Martin's patient and interviewee prior to his execution, who at one point Nefarious states is the killer's "best friend," and whom he abuses into committing three murders prior to leaving the Oklahoma prison where Edward is incarcerated, and publishing The Dark Gospel as an offer that was once given to a carpenter. Much of the film simply revolves around Dr. Martin and Edward/Nefarious talking to each other.

He is portrayed by Sean Patrick Flanery.

Biography[]

Synopsis[]

Little is known about Edward's childhood and backstory.

The Execution[]

Edward is led to the barber shop by a prison guard, where he angrily shoves him onto a chair to have his head shaved off. Nefarious/Edward asks the barber, Trustee Styles, for "a little off the top" and to "trim the sides" for his death by electrocution, to which Trustee replies that he is only getting the "zero gap" cut. Trustee attempts to tell Edward that God can't forgive him for his actions, but Nefarious says it's what he thinks, and quotes lines from Shakespeare, in his own words, stating "new insults slap the face of heaven." Nefarious says the words were Shakespeare's, but the deeds were his, before the shaving process begins. A few minutes later, the now bald Edward is led to the holding cell by the guards. As Edward leaves, Trustee tells Edward that nobody is going to miss him.
