~ Edwarn to Wax. |
Edwarn Ladrian is the secondary antagonist of Mistborn era 2, by Brandon Sanderson. He is the uncle of protagonist Waxillium Ladrian. He was a former aristocrat who faked his death to become a leader in the terrorist organization known as The Set.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Edwarn was born into the wealthy Ladrian family. He established many banks. Using his banks, he would put poor people into debt so he could use them as indentured servants. He tried to train his nephew, Waxillium to be just like him. Later, he started hiding money, pretending he lost it while gambling. He was recruited by his Niece Telsin to join the terrorist organization known as the Set which was being controlled by a malevolent deity known as Autonomy.
The Alloy of Law[]
Edwarn funded a thieving group known as The Vanishers, led by Miles Hundredlives. He had them rob cargo from wealthy houses and kidnap female allomancers in order to breed them. Kidnapped men and women were placed in an underground cavern and told that they were the last survivors of an apocalypse, so they would decide to have children with each other. Waxillium found out about his uncle's involvement and tried to confront him. However, he was unable to arrest Edwarn.
Shadows of Self[]
Wax discovered his uncles goal of trying to start a war in Elendel in order to profit from it. Edwarn claimed he was being no different than rebels like Kelsier and Vin, and that the leaders of Elendel were like Rashek.
The Bands of Mourning[]
Edwarn set out to find the Bands of Mourning, the former feruchemical bracers of Rashek which contained all of his powers. He managed to capture a group of explorers known as the Malwish, who found ways to use technology to control allomancy and feruchemy. He had them tortured and killed to get information from them. At some point he also used Hemalurgy to give himself powers.
Wax found his sister, Telsin, believing her to be a captive of Edwarn. When the two of them confronted Edwarn, Telsin revealed herself and shot Wax. Edwarn tried to find the Bads of Mourning, but Marasi found them instead, and gave them to Wax, who captured Edwarn. In prison, a Kandra, who served Autonomy, killed Edwarn, along with itself.
