~ El Guapo about the Three Amigos. |
El Guapo is portrayed as a bully who forces small Mexican villages to pay his gang all they have for "protection money", similar to the mafia, in 1916. If they refuse or don't have the money, the gang attacks their village. One particular village enlists the help of the Three Amigos, a silent action film trio who the village residents believe are real gunfighters. The actors believe that they are being hired to put on a show and El Guapo's men are so exasperated by the trio's supidity that they leave to tell El Guapo.
The villagers believe this to be victory and celebrate. However, unbeknowest to them, El Guapo is extremely furious that they asked for help and nearly destroys their village, taking a young girl named Carmen. The Three Amigos attempt to rescue her. Because it is his birthday, El Guapo throws a party and he is given a sweater, which he warmly accepts. El Guapo is asked what he will do if Carmen doesn't want to sleep with him.
El Guapo states that he will not rape her, because you have to wait until she trusts you enough. When he is asked when he thinks she will be ready, El Guapo responds: "Tonight. Or I will kill her!". Carmen is rescued from El Guapo and El Guapo rides back to the village, preparing to burn it to the ground. However, everywhere he looks, he sees the Three Amigos. El Guapo's men are scared off and El Guapo is mortally wounded by a shot to the chest.
As El Guapo lays dying, he realizes that the village's residents all sewed their own Three Amigos costumes and commends them for their cleverness. He then shoots one of the Three Amigos in the foot and remarks that the trick was also great, before dying.
