Elder Centipede (in Japanese: ムカデ長老, Mukade Chōrō) is a major antagonist in the anime/manga series One Punch Man. He is a Mysterious Being who is a member of the Monster Association and a Dragon Level Threat. He was killed by Saitama.
He was voiced by Naoki Bando in the Japanese version, and by Richard Epcar in the English version. Bando has also voiced Lord Emon from Shadow of the Colossus. Epcar also provided the voices of the Joker in both Injustice and Mortal Kombat series, Merukimon from Digimon Data Squad, Dong Zhuo from Dynasty Warriors, Walhart from Fire Emblem Awakening, and Akuma from Street Fighter series.
Personality[]
Elder Centipede was stoic and not very verbose. He was focused, tactical and cautious of his opponents, going directly after targets instead of engaging in meaningless fights.
Due to previously nearly dying to Blast, Elder Centipede holds a vicious grudge against him and would jump at any chance to get a rematch. When King announced that Blast was nearby, Elder Centipede immediately abandoned his chase of Bang and Bomb. It is possible that his defeat against Blast made him less arrogant and more careful.
Biography[]
Elder Centipede arrived from underground to kidnap Narinki, but he was intercepted by Metal Bat. However, the hero's attack did not harm the monster. While Elder Centipede continued to chase after Narinki, Metal Bat climbed onto and attacked Elder Centipede's head. Elder Centipede shook off the hero by maneuvering around the city. When he finally cornerd Mohican and Pineapple, Metal Knight arrived and fired missiles at Elder Centipede. He later picked up his monster allies and escaped.
Elder Centipede later emerged to protect Phoenix Man from Genos's Spiral Incineration Cannon. He engaged Bang, Bomb and Genos, eventually forcing them to retreat. Bang intended to sacrifice himself and prepared to go all-out against Elder Centipede using Awakening Breath. However, King caught Elder Centipede's attention by tricking him into believing that Blast had arrived, making it charge toward him. Elder Centipede met his demise when Saitama threw his Serious Punch that disintegrated his entire body. However, credit for his defeat went to King.
Powers and Abilities[]
Elder Centipede is a Dragon Level Threat, one of the largest monsters to ever exist and one of the strongest members of the Monster Association. He was compared to a natural disaster by Phoenix Man and the Hero Association. The organization even questioned whether they have the necessary firepower to defeat the monster. Gyoro Gyoro estimated that only four S-Class heroes are powerful enough to clash with Elder Centipede.
- Superhuman Strength: Elder Centipede is capable of levelling entire cities and tunnelling through the ground with no issues at all. He knocked Metal Bat a large distance, injured Bang and Bomb with a tackle and easily cut Genos in half. His antennae alone were strong enough to restrain Demon Cyborg, despite the hero having extreme strength that even rivalled that of Tanktop Master at the time.
- Superhuman Speed: Elder Centipede turned his head to the side in time to block Metal Bat's swing with his carapace shell and intercepted Genos's blast after it was already fired into the sky.
- Superhuman Durability: Elder Centipede's face endured multiple hits by Metal Bat. Genos struggled to break through a single tooth with Jet Drive Arrow. Elder Centipede's body was protected by a carapace capable of withstanding Metal Knight's missiles without a scratch, no-selling a powerful swing from Metal Bat, who previously annihilated two Disaster Level Demon monsters with one hit each, and tanking Genos's Spiral Incineration Cannon without any damage. The combined might of Bang and Bomb was needed to shatter its carapace, which only became bigger and presumably tougher when molted.
- Regeneration: Elder Centipede regenerated his teeth, eyes and insides from being completely incinerated by Genos' attack very quickly. However, if his entire body is completely destroyed, he will not be able to regenerate, as seen when he was obliterated by Saitama's Serious Punch.
- Digestive Fluids: Elder Centipede's insides are coated with extremely corrosive digestive fluids that would even melt Genos if he stayed in contact with them for too long.
- Molting: Every time he shed his outer shell, Elder Centipede grew bigger and stronger than he was before, alongside gaining another face.
Trivia[]
- Elder Centipede was the first official Disaster Level Dragon monster revealed.
- Elder Centipede could be based on the ōmukade, a giant centipede from Japanese mythology. In myth, it was large enough to wrap itself around the mountains and its body was impenetrable to most attacks.
