Eleanor Adjai, also known as The Headhunter, is the main antagonist of the 1981 horror film Night School. She is the assistant to and girlfriend of an anthropology professor named Vincent Millett. Her boyfriend taught a class during the night at Wendell College where he would have affairs with his students. Rather than breaking up with him, Eleanor used an ancient ritual known as headhunting to kill off any woman her boyfriend flirted with.
She was portrayed by Rachel Ward.
Biography[]
Eleanor Adjai worked at Wendell College in Boston, Massachusetts as an assistant to anthropology professor Vincent Millett. Sometime, the two began a relationship and Millett got her pregnant. But being a professor at an all-girls college, Millett found it hard to be faithful, and flirted with many of his students. Wanting to protect the sanctity of her relationship, Eleanor realized that in order to keep her boyfriend and future husband from cheating, she would have to eliminate any girl that Millett flirted with.
After learning of an ancient tribal ritual where the head is severed and dunked in water as a way of cleansing, Eleanor begins dressing like a biker and doing the ritual with a tribal blade known as a kukri. One night, while Anne Barron is outside a daycare sitting on the merry go round, Eleanor pulls up on her bike and spins the merry go round putting her kukri in line of Anne's neck, but she pulls it away at the last second. She does this three more times, before finally chopping Anne's head off and placing it in a bucket of water.
The next night, she attacks Kim Morrison, a student at Millett's school and a trained diver. After a chase, she cuts Kim's head off and throws it in a fish tank.
In the afternoon, Eleanor and Millett go out to eat at a diner. Their waitress is a pretty lady named Carol, who Millett seems to flirt with. Seeing this, at night, Eleanor comes back dressed in her biker gear and decapitates Carol, clogging the sink and submerging her head in it. The cops later find Carol's body in the dumpster and her head in the sink.
The next night, Eleanor follows an assistant of Professor Millett's to her home, where she's experimenting with a female student named Kathy. Despite being lesbian and posing no threat to her relationship, Eleanor still chases her and decapitates her. Kathy goes to look for Helene, but ends up finding her head in the toilet. After hearing the scream, Eleanor shows up and kills Kathy, though her head was never found. The cops show up to Helene's house and Eleanor flees on her motorcycle, back to her own house. She comes in and takes off her helmet, but Professor Millett catches her. She explains her motives to Millett while the cops get there. Not wanting Eleanor to take the fall for the murders and feeling like it was his fault, Millett dresses as The Headhunter and flees on the motorcycle. The police give chase to the fleeing Headhunter, but it ends in tragedy when he crashes and dies.
Days later, Eleanor attends a funeral for her late husband. Detective Judd Austin is there as well and talks to Eleanor. Despite knowing that she was the actual killer, Austin lets her go, because he realizes that it's futile and that losing the one she loved was punishment enough.
