Wrong. He was a fifteen-year-old boy. Now he is a miracle. The accident killed Barry Allen, but his death doesn't need to be for nothing. Your son might be the greatest successs we've ever had.
~ Thawne to Rudy West on his son's new powers.

Dr. Elenore Thawne is one of the main antagonists of the DC Comics Absolute Universe, serving as the main antagonist of the comic series Absolute Flash.

She is the scientific partner of the late Barry Allen and later the head of the experimentations happening at the special US division, Project Olympus, located under the Fort Fox. When Allen's death is occasioned by a boy who accidentally gained super speed powers, Thawne becomes obssessed with getting him back, considering him the perfect success of what Olympus aimed to achieve. To do so, she deployed the Rogues, and any other resource available, to get the boy back.

From her name and enmity with Flash, she is loosely based on Eobard Thawne.

Appearance[]

Thawne is a tall and slim woman, with pale skin and silver blond hair. She dresses in dark colors, usually using a grey coat over a deep black shirt, and always walks with a cane. She uses very dark, black lipstick, that contrasts against her skin color.

Biography[]

Absolute Flash[]

The grandaughter of famed scientist Eobard Thawne, Elenore seeked to complete her grandfather's research, and for it looked for the help of Dr. Barry Allen. His research was previously shut down, but she, with her connections at Fort Fox, managed to give him the resources needed to recreate it and keep going, as well as telling him about her grandpa's history.

She then became the main partner of Dr. Barry Allen at Fort Fox's Porject Olympus. She oversaw the division of human experimentations (for "enhancement" of the human race) and special weapons creations. A certified biologist, Thawne oversaw the expeirmentation and creation of various meta humans; including those of Mick Rory and the Weather Wizard.

With Dr. Barry Allen's guidance and Rudy West's help, she tested the new weapons and enchancements of Fort Fox with a group of non convicted military criminals, who later became a task force for Fort Fox with their new abilities. Some of them had connections to a previous test subject of Olympus, Mick Rory, but Thawne said to them that he didn't survive, not talking about his mutation.

When a malfunctioning of one of Barry Allen's experiments leads to his death, as well as teenager Wally West obtaining super speed powers, Thawne becomes fascinated at what she sees as a "Miracle", and the first true success of Project Olympus. Alongisde his father, she requests his immediate comeback to the Fort, deploying the Rogues to capture him. As they lose the boy, as well as the mutated psychic monkey named Grodd, Thawne chastichises them for their failure.

As Rudy becomes more and more worried about his son and distrusting of Thawne's intentions, he enters the lower levels of Project Olympus and finds out the special exeperiments, composed of non-human beings preserved. Thawne has him be kidnapped by her goons and destroys his cellhpone, with which he was trying to contact Wally, before bringing Rudy to a "talk" while tied up to a chair, as she starts to explain the true purposes of Project Olympus.

Absolute Evil[]

Elenore Thawn in Absolute Evil

In 1951, Hawkman was blackmailed into stopping "un-American" activities in exchange for his identity not being revealed to the public. The page then timeskips to the present day, where Oliver Queen is practising archery. He is conducting a phone call and explains to the caller that his target is Jubal Slade. Oliver also explains to the caller that an unknown person has been conducting a lot of private flights and has bought the courts. The person who is calling is revealed to be Hector Hammond, and he proceeds to a meeting room. Veronica Cale, the national security advisor, greets him. Ra's Al Ghul orders Hector to quiet down before they commence the meeting.

The Joker looks at him from across the table and agrees with Ra's, saying that he does not enjoy jokes. Sitting in the room also is Dr. Elenore Thawne herself. Cale explains that in 1939, there was a man named Wesley Dodds who operated as the vigilante known as the Sandman, but was shot and killed. He developed an advanced sleeping gas from which the government later stole. She then goes on to tell the story of Wildcat, a masked crime fighter who was framed for murder. Wildcat was later bribed after a stakeout in a factory and died peacefully in his sleep after retiring from crime and living a normal life. Without the work of Wildcat, 16 people perished within the factory. Cale tells the story of Iron Munro, an exceptionally talented stuntman who attended socialist meetings and lived a life of solitude, perishing when a chemical test was "accidentally" dropped on his home. The reason she explains the stories of these failed vigilantes is that they are several out of hundreds of examples of people who have acted outside of the status quo, and the targets they are dealing with today will be no different.

Cale explains that in Gateway City, a force of destruction appeared known as the Gateway Event which summoned a massive monster known as the Tetracide. A mysterious armoured woman on her steed flew towards the beast and slayed it with a simple punch. Cale found it extremely concerning that the troops on the ground allowed her to take command and to guide them towards killing the Tetracide. She then goes on to show that at the same time, a man with a cape made out of ash was violently disrupting Lazarus Corp operations within international territory. While she describes the others as non-human beings, she can confirm that the final subject they are targeting is human. The final subject that they are targeting has an axe on his chest in the shape of a bat and "appears and vanishes like a ghost." Joker talks to himself, saying that the bat-axed target did not take the money. She then shows more examples - a detective with a strange Euclidean force around him, a woman with strange green energy around her and a lightning-fast teenager with a telepathic ape companion. Cade and the people within the room know that things are escalating and that previously they could deal with these threats individually, but that is no longer possible, so they have decided to group together.

Hector gets angry and gets into an argument with Ra's, where he shouts at him that he does not need his help. Cade believes it would be a good time to show the solution to their problems and brings in Hawkman, who has a radical appearance than before. Hawkman is brainwashed and wears a variety of bandages on his head in addition to a vicious and aggressive helmet. Hawkman arrives and places Oliver's bloodied body on the table. He asks the group within the room if they have any questions. Ra's is pleased, telling Hector that this is the way that they solve problems - not within a month but rather a day. Ms Thawne looks confused and asks how exactly Hawkman killed Queen and whether it was a covert assassination, or if they are blackmailing her and her crew. Cade gives each of them a proposition - that they could make one phone call to Hawkman and get rid of their problems. Joker asks if he could have the floor and stands up.

Joker explains that his scientists have come up with a breakthrough when it comes to particle physics laboratory and tells the people within the room not to speak of this to anyone. He explains that the Higgs-Boson particle, which is considered the final piece of quantum physics, could be the answer as to how the universe works. His scientists have found a better particle called the "Omega Particle". He then showcases a video of a quantum accelerator and states that the omega particle has a "spiritual" and "moral" dimension to it:

Existence within his universe is ordered and ordained; some have the winning cards, and others have a handful of jokers. The people who get angry at the universe rally against it, and there is a proper term to describe it - the just word fallacy. There is no belief that a world can be just, but they have evidence of a natural order worked upon the world by a higher power. As they drag Oliver's lifeless body, Joker raises a toast towards an ordered world and a "Justice League".

Trivia[]

  • Though lacking the time travel and super speed elements, Elenore Thawne seems to be a mix of different incarnations of the Reverse-Flash, the Flash's most iconic archenemy. She has the last name of Eobard Thawne/Professor Zoom, walks with a cane like Hunter Zolomon/Zoom, and has a deep obssession with the Flash much like both incarnations of the Reverse-Flash though her obsession is less personal and more because of what Wally West represents as a successful experiment from Project Olympus.
    • It's eventually revealed she is the granddaughter of the Absolute Universe's version of Eobard Thawne.
