“ | I brought Lilith to Sanctuary. A thing no one thought possible. And when Hell rises to sweep across this word, I should be there beside her, ready to push it back. You left me alone to cross the lines you would dare not attempt and you have nothing to show for it. You are nothing but a wasted life. Elias, also called The Pale Man, is a major antagonist in Diablo IV. He is a supreme priest of Temple of the Triune and right hand of Lilith.
He was voiced by Anthony Howell, who has also voiced Morgott in Elden Ring, Bahavas and Dervahl in Horizon Zero Dawn, Ardal aep Dahy in The Witcher and Gaspard de Chalons in Dragon Age Inquisition.
Biography[]
Elias was once a member of the Horadrim and an apprentice of Lorath Nahr. However, Elias broke the rules and tried to summon demons. Lorath, instead of killing him, banished Elias from the Horadrim.
Elias started to search a way for protecting Sanctuary before Great Evils strike. He decided that the only option was to summon Lilith back into the Sanctuary. Elias additionally made a deal with Tree of Whispers, granting him immortality for a prize of his finger.
Elias joined two adventurers and a cleric named Symon and found underground chamber with them. He was apparently killed by Ghouls, but returned and slained adventurers. He later forced Symon to summon Lilith back into The Sanctuary.
In 1336, after corrupting Nevesk, Lilith sent Elias to Dry Steppes to finish their preparations. He was followed by Lorath.
Elias kidnapped Taissa in Kehjistan and inked dozens of runes on her skin, planning to use her as a gate to summon Andariel. However, Lorath interrupted the ritual and stabbed Elias in the neck with a horn, which allowed him to escape with Taissa.
Unfortunately, Elias managed to finish the ritual and Andariel appeared in The Sanctuary. She was immediately killed by The Wanderer.
Eventually, The Wanderer, Taissa and Lorath confronted Elias in Hawezar and fought with him. After realizing his immortality was negated, Elias tried to escape, but was chased down and captured. Elias insulted Lorath and called him weak, before Taissa sliced his throat open, killing him for good.
After his death, Elias's head was taken by the Tree of Whispers and hanged in there for all eternity.
