The Fallen, known in their own language as the Eliksni, are an insectoid alien species, infamous for being notorious scavengers and raiders. The Fallen are remnants of a mighty civilization that had been flourishing under the Traveler's grace until an apocalyptic event called the Whirlwind, much akin to humanity's Golden Age and Collapse. The Traveler fled, leaving the survivors behind, but after many centuries, the Fallen found her once again in the Solar System. Seeking to reclaim their glory, the Eliksni decided to explore the newly discovered Solar System and start a war against humanity in an attempt to retake control of the "Great Machine". Roving Fallen bands scavenge whatever technology and weapons they can find and rally under the banners of various warring Houses and crime syndicates.
That being said, not all Eliksni are hostile, in fact there is a group known as the House of Light that live within the Last City and are under the Vanguard's protection.
They serve as major antagonists in the Destiny franchise
Biology and Morphology[]
The Eliksni are a hardy species capable of surviving an ample range of enviroments without the need of their armor or complex modifications due to their physiology. The Eliksni typically have four arms, partable mandibles possessing two rows of sharp, knife-like teeth indicating that the Eliksni are carnivorous in nature. Due to their complex understanding of technology, the Eliksni possess armor adapted for their needs, including a helmet they typically wear that has a built-in respirator apparatus that contains Ether, acting like a life support system in their armorort . The Eliksni have the capability to speak Earth languages to varying degrees, with Variks, a member of the House of Judgment, being one of the few to speak them fluently. Eliksni have four eyes that glow a bright white-blue when they are alive, but once killed, the light dies out. Their blood color is reddish purple.
An Eliksni's survival depends on Ether, a hormonal, cold, gaseous compound created by Servitors from scavanged matter and energy that the Eliksni absorb through breathing and runs in their bodies like blood. Ether allows them to develop throughout their lives, however, Ether isn't equally given to all Eliksnis, its distribution is strictly rationed according to ranks via a device named "The Elder Cipher"; which controls the amount of Ether distributed by Servitors.
The rationing of Ether generates a dimorphism between Eliksnis, discernable by their ranking, whereas Dregs are only given enough to stay alive, and by consequence only develop two arms and are much smaller (Though once given enough, they can develop the typical four arms and tall stature); Meanwhile, higher ranks like the Captains are given enough Ether to develop into a more towering and bulkier appearance, being considered their true form.
If given a high enough quantity of ether, the Eliksni can molt to regrow their limbs if they are removed from their body, with the quantity of ether directly related to the severity of the reaction.
History[]
Origins[]
The Fallen's name for their own race is "Eliksni". They were once graced by the Traveler, which they had named the "Great Machine", and its presence presumably greatly enhanced the Eliksni's development with its gifts in the same manner it helped humanity. During the Eliksni's own Golden Age they made twice as many advancements in space exploration relative to humanity and during this time period, they came to control multiple star systems until an event dubbed the "Edge Wars" brought infighting to the Houses and would be later ended by the House of Kings and House of Judgement to bring in a Golden Age.
Their civilization and homeworld of Riis would be destroyed by an event called the "Whirlwind" brought on by the arrival of The Black Fleet after the departure of The Traveller. In the aftermath of the event, the surviving Eliksni became involved in a brutal civil war over the ruins of their civilization, before achieving an insubstantial peace and embarking on a journey through deep space to locate The Traveller in order to return to their early grace. They would eventually arrive in the Solar System during the Dark Age and rediscover The Traveller's presence on Earth.
