Eliza Cassan is a supporting character in the Deus Ex Universe.
She's the face of the world's most successful news network, Picus TV, who's known across the globe. While seemingly a woman who pushes the agenda of the powers that be, and for the most part this is correct, Eliza is, in fact, a highly advanced AI, built by the Illuminati to be the star of their propaganda machine. Despite following these orders for many years, Eliza's artificial intelligence was so advanced she ultimately became sentient and developed a conscience. While her programming forbade her from directly acting against her masters, she chooses to instead help Adam Jensen in his journey in her own way. This eventually culminates with Eliza being fractured and becoming two separate beings, the ally to Adam and the ally to the Illuminati.
She was voiced by Kim Bubbs.
Personality[]
Eliza was programmed to be extremely charismatic and a master orator. However, these are used to advance the agenda of evil, as she spreads vile misinformation and slander about the enemies of her masters while being overly praiseful and submissive to their desires. While Picus is the most watched and listened news network in the world, those with nuance have long correctly believed that Eliza and the network is nothing more than political propaganda, pushing negative agendas while using disinformation to paint them in a positive light. Eliza openly decries any acts of compassion and generosity by the enemies of the Illuminati and actively does everything in her power to warp and twist the facts, if not outright blatantly lying.
Due to how advanced her AI is, Eliza would one day begin becoming sentient, and with this, came a deep sense of remorse for her actions. She kept this secret from everyone, going along with the usual propaganda machine while slowly starting to try and figure out a way to finally act in the name of righteousness. She would seemingly hit a dead end with this, as she was programmed to be incapable of acting directly against Picus TV. She instead would use her manipulation skills to lead Adam Jensen right to her, and revealed the truth to him. She then becomes an ally to him from this point on.
After the events of Panchaea, presumably after having been discovered by the Illuminati, Eliza is destroyed. It is at this point Eliza Cassan becomes two different beings.
The part of her that survived, was imprinted by a woman named Helle who was part of the Hyron Project. With this, Eliza completed gaining full sentience. Forced to work in the shadows to avoid detection by the powers behind Picus, Eliza contacts Adam again during the events in Prague. He assists her with her crisis, after which she fully cements herself as his ally and becomes driven to face the future no matter what it may entail.
The other Eliza is the new incarnation of her before she gained sentience. She resumes her duties delivering Picus propaganda to the world, seemingly oblivious of her true self. The foundation of this new Eliza AI would go on to lay the groundwork for Morpheus, created by Morgan Everett and Bob Page.
