“ | My poor boy. Do you see what they did to us? How they hurt us? He's out there still. All alone. Each full moon they hunt him, armed with silver. Trying to put an end to a curse they inflicted upon themselves when they set my show ablaze six years ago. Stupid children. | „ |
~ Eliza Vorez to the player. |
Eliza Vorez, also known as the Hag of Hackett's Quarry, is the overarching antagonist of The Quarry.
She was killed six years prior to the events of The Quarry and seeks revenge on the Hackett family for letting her "son", Silas Vorez, loose after Caleb and Kaylee Hackett set him free by lighting her freakshow on fire, destroying it and potentially killing her.
Silas is an albino werewolf, and was treated as a star attraction known as "The Wolf Boy", alongside Eliza's fortune-telling business.
She was voiced and motion captured by Grace Zabriskie.
Biography[]
Prior to the events of The Quarry, Eliza owned a moderately successful freakshow named "Harum Scarum". Among its attractions was the wolf boy Silas, whom Eliza kept in a cage. After the freakshow is burned down and Silas is freed by Caleb and Kaylee Hackett, she swears revenge on the Hackett family and wishes to keep her son safe.
Throughout the game, she appears during and between chapters. During chapters, she often is seen wandering the forest, calling out for her son, Silas.
Between chapters, she will read the future of the tarot cards that the player collects. Beneath this friendly, helpful facade, Eliza is simply attempting to influence the player to make choices that will save Silas and kill the Hackett family.
Personality[]
“ | Eliza was killed in the fire that broke out at her travelling show six years ago. Her ghost roams the woods of Hackett's Quarry ever since, and she's been determined to get revenge on the Hackett family for what they did to her. Her tarot cards, once lost in the blaze, have allowed her to guide you through the night... though her motives may not have been as transparent as first thought. | „ |
~ The High Priestess tarot card. |
Outwardly, Eliza is a very friendly and helpful person who seemingly just wants to help the player. However, this facade is broken as the player progresses through the story and her history is revealed. She constantly attempts to manipulate the player in ways that allow them to accomplish her own goals during their meetings.
However, despite this manipulative nature, she truly does deeply cares for Silas, attempting to protect and save him even after her death. If Silas is killed at the end of the game, she will hatefully insult the player and curse them for their actions, remarking that she trusted them and "even started to like them", and if Silas is saved, she will thank the player for what they did, promising that she'll never forget what they did for her.
Trivia[]
- Eliza's last name and personality is a reference to Pamela Voorhees, as both are extremely similar characters with similar goals.
