Elysium is a major antagonist in Dragalia Lost. Initially introduced as a legendary hero, it is eventually revealed that he is actually self-centered and controlling in the raid event "Forgotten Truths" which reveals him to be responsible for the game's initial main antagonist, Morsayati. Elysium also serves as the main antagonist of the raid event "Dawn of Dragalia". However, later chapters reveal he is in fact, a tragic and sympathetic character, only committing the crimes he did because he felt they were the only way to save all life.
His voice actress in Japanese is Yoshiko Sakakibara and is voiced by a male voice actor Donny Lucas in the English version.
Appearance[]
Elysium is a giant white dragon with gold horns and blue eyes. He also has a blue jewel on his chest.
His void form has black horns and red eyes. Parts of his body have changed to black and has a red jewel instead of blue.
Personality[]
At first, Elysium was a truly kind and caring dragon who believed in the power of possibility. However, seeing branching worlds crumble away and become a threat to other worlds left him scared of his own world being destroyed and made him desire what The Progenitor saw as a perfect world: One without freedom and is set on a linear path. As such, he becomes a control freak that desires complete control over the world. He also belittles humans, believing that only he has the power to keep the world in check, becoming narcissistic and proud, although this might simply be as he was the only immortal creature in the world who still remembered the sealing away of Xenos, and thus thought he was the only one who could be counted upon to care for the world.
However despite these flaws, Elysium truly loved the world and only committed those heinous crimes as he believed it was the right thing to do, with Primal Midgardsormr noting that Elysium was always overly sympathetic to the creatures of the world as he believed that they needed to be protected, and notes that had he and the original Greatwyrms been there for him, he might not have gone to such extreme measures. This is displayed in his final demise, where he expresses his sadness at not being able to admire the world anymore but thanks Euden and his friends for continuing to protect it.
Biography[]
Past[]
Elysium was created by The Progenitor and the Origin as their servant along with the Five Greatwyrms, so when the original Greatwyrms fused into Bahamut as a vessel for Origin, sacrificing their lives to seal away the Progenitor, Elysium was left all alone and in charge as custodian of the world, as well as being saddened by the deaths of his comrades. While he initially protected the path of possibility as Origin had, he eventually strayed from it as he saw how the branching worlds of the main one crumbled away and decided that the only way for the world to survive was to keep it on a linear path, and thus he began his tyranny, asserting complete control over the world. He also believed that humans were too immature and foolish to govern the land and that he was to govern over them.
One thousand years ago, a war between humans and dragons was at an all time high. While there were humans and dragons that got along and wanted peace, Elysium wanted control. To obtains this, he sought out a girl by the name of Ilia with the intent on forcing her to form a pact with him. Ilia initially looked up to him, but when she found out his motives, she started avoiding him just like she was doing with Augus.
Forgotten Truths[]
Soon, a girl from the future named Zethia arrived and told Ilia that she eventually did form a pact with Elysium. While Ilia explains to Zethia Elysium's intentions, the dragon arrives and starts demanding the pact. Eventually, Ilia realizes that she has no choice but to go through with it when Augus starts threatening innocent people.
The moment the pact is made, a pactstone called dragalia is made, and Ilia is supposedly killed in the process. This causes a creation of hers by the name of Mordecai to become absolutely infuriated with the dragon, resulting in him turning into the demon Morsayati. Despite this, Elysium sees a fight with Morsayati as an easy way to restart the world to its current medieval state and prevent the disaster humanity was inflicting upon themselves.
Eventually, Ilia, who was still alive, reaches out and manages to split Mordecai from Morsayati. Afterward everybody, including Elysium worked together to open a portal to seal Morsayati away. Ilia and Mordecai, figuring their existence would be a threat to Grastaea as well, jump into the portal as well, but not before starting the Ilian church which would spread the myth that Elysium and Ilia formed a pact to seal away the demon Morsayati which was a being summoned from the Otherworld, which Elysium approves of as they could help him manage the world and keep it in balance. They leave Meene to serve as the goddess in Ilia's place by Elysium's side up until her passing.
Some time after Primal Midgardsormr's death, Elysium decides to try and fight the Progenitor himself, stealing the Primal Marks of the Greatwyrms to empower himself, although he doesn't succeed in finding Xenos.
Dawn of Dragalia[]
A few centuries later, Elysium was praised as a god across all of Grastaea, and he soon meets a man by the name of Alberius who seeks his approval to use the sword known as Dragalia. After testing Alberius, he sends the man out to prevent Dyrenell soldiers from releasing Morsayati.
However, Cardinal Lambert betrayed the church and helped Dyrenell release Morsayati so that he could acquire power. With Morsayati free once more, Elysium decides that humanity doesn't deserve to live and orders dragons to wipe them all out, prompting Alberius, along with Midgardsormr, to negotiate with Elysium. When the Holywyrm refuses to listen to them and attempts to strike them down, the groups fight Elysium using the very weapon that had been made by his pact.
However, Elysium soon finds out that this Dragalia was different in that it was created from a pact between Meene and a Midgardsormr from long ago. Eventually, Elysium takes notice of Alberius' determination and how similar he is to Ilia. Witnessing this, he decides to spare humanity for the time being and let Alberius serve as Grastaea's protector.
The truth of Elysium's actual nature continues to remain a secret to the general public.
Chapter 21[]
After the Halidom party make it to the Sacred Tree, they learn from Nedrick and the Tree's spirit about the Progenitor and the Origin. from there, they learn of Nedrick's goal to finish his pact with Bahamut to keep the Progenitor from returning and making events predetermined. Understanding, the Halidom party prepare to back off. However, Elysium shows up to stop the humans from getting the dawnshard and tells them that he witnessed many outcomes of allowing humans freedom to do what they want and they all ended in ruin.
As such, Elysium tells them that the best way is for the world to be on a set linear path. While the party agree that being unpredictable may eventually lead to ruin, they can't accept a world devoid of freedom and unpredictability. With this, the party and Nedrick fight Elysium. However, the Holywyrm pins them down by stopping the flow of mana, making it seem as if everybody is doomed. Euden refuses to give up and manages to utilize apotheosis to turn into the black mana beast form of Volk, allowing him to strike down Elysium once and for all.
After he is slain, The Progenitor and Beren approaches and turns Elysium into a void dragon. Zethia with Bahamut's power helped the group destroy void Elysium. It is revealed in Elysium's Gala Dragon Story that as he was turned into a void dragon, he heard The Progenitor mocking him for betraying possibility to become his pawn, saying it was his plan all along.
Chapter 24[]
Void Elysium returns once again with Beren, being used as a weapon to fight the party and Greatwyrms. Hoping to release Elysium from his suffering and to regain the Primal Marks, Euden and his friends attack, but the Holywyrm keeps regenerating and seems invincible. However, Nedrick realises that Beren isn't bending causality to his will, but has instead created a mini-world with a fixed end, and as Bahamut is an amalgamation of the first Greatwyrms, he can transform and use him to absorb the Primal Marks, destroying the world and defeating Elysium. Together with Zethia distracting Elysium and the borders of the mini-world, Nedrick absorbs the Primal Marks before using them to destroy Beren's world, returning them to the original one. Fending off the Terminals, the Greatwyrms and Ilia all console the Holywyrm, telling him that he shouldn't have tried to shoulder all the responsibility himself, and that they understand him truly. Freed from the black mana, Elysium thanks the party but informs them that he doesn't have much time left and will fade to mana once more. Euden assures him that they will protect all life from Xenos, to which Elysium thanks them before having finally found peace, fading away.
