Ember is a major antagonist in Path of Stars, the last book of Dawn of the Clans arc and a minor antagonist in super edition Riverstar's Home from Erin Hunter's Warriors book franchise.
He is a self-centered cat who used to be a part of Slash's Group. During the time of the Early Settlers' arrival to the forest, Ember was left behind by his leader after a pack of dogs rampaged through the rogues' camp. Initially joining Thunder's group, the orange cat rejoined Slash when the latter interrupted the Gathering.
After failing to kidnap Gray Wing's son, Black Ear, the rogues disappeared in the thick of the forest. However, seasons later Slash's Group raided a peaceful park and terrorised its' residents for prey and servitude. Following Riverstar's intervention the rogues have been driven away and upon witnessing the former's resurrection, Ember questioned his leader, before leaving with the rest of the rogues.
Biography[]
Path of Stars[]
While unnamed yet, Ember is first seen during the fight with Early Settlers, in which he and Juniper battle against Slate. After a while, both rogues are chased off. Later, he is seen racing out of Slash's camp to check on the noise made by the Settlers, before a group of dogs overruns the camp and destroys it, injuring several cats and killing few. After the dogs left and Slash with Beetle and Splinter abandoned his camp, Ember stumbles up and complains about the rogue leader's parting words. Violet reassures him, calling him by his name. As the cats begin cleaning up their injures, one of Ember's campmates, Moss, points out the injury under the former's chin, to which the orange tom snaps to focus on his own injury. He and the rest of Slash's former campmates then make their way to Wind Runner's territory to shelter and later, Ember leaves with Thunder's group as its' new member.
His solitary lifestyle within the group is brought up during the gathering of group leaders, with Thunder and Leaf debating on the reasons behind that as well as Ember's future in the group. It is mentioned that his behavior doesn't change, which eventually causes Thunder to worry about the orange tom's loyalty upon hearing about how Bee attacked Fern in Wind Runner's group before returning to Slash. With each day, Ember's solitude is being brought up by various cats and Thunder keeps remaining torn. The day rogues are officially branded as members of each group arrives and Ember's presence is noted by Thunder.
However, when the ceremony starts and Ember is asked if he wants to keep his name or change it, the orange tom claims that sleeping in the same camp doesn't mean that he wants to change who he is. He is then questioned on his loyalty by River Ripple, to which he sarcastically asks if sleeping in the same camp makes him have to act as if he was Thunder's kin. River points out the pledge all former rogues have just taken and asks Ember doesn't it sound a little like what kin do for one another. The orange cat snorts that Slash never expected anything of them and that they could do whatever they wanted, which angers Thunder to the point that he darted forward to face Ember and reminded him how they had to obey Slash's every command back then. At that moment Slash himself interrupts the meeting, furiously denying Thunder's words. He reveals that he returned to take the weakest members of his group back home, and Ember is the only one to rejoin him. He voices his desire to return, to which the rogue leader murmurs with satisfaction that of course he does.
After it's been revealed that the rogues have kidnapped Gray Wing's son, Black Ear, and have been caught up with by Thunder, Clear Sky, Sparrow Fur and Owl Eyes by the road, Ember faces them with the rest of Slash's group. However, instead of fighting, the rogues follow their leader across the road and into the thick forest ahead, disappearing from view.
Riverstar's Home[]
It's revealed that Slash's group have taken over the Park and are occupying its' residents. Upon Riverstar's arrival however, it's noted that Slash's group has grown from a mere gang into a large group consisting of various other rogues. Drizzle notes Ember's presence among the other members of Slash's former gang in this new group. When the RiverClan founder reveals himself to the rogues couple days later, Ember questions him how he and his friends managed to get by unnoticed, before recalling him from the past to Snail and incorrectly tries to guess his name. As a fight breaks out, he and Beetle are spotted fighting Scooby, with the former later instead fighting Drizzle. When Slash takes Owl hostage, Ember, Beetle, Splinter, Snake and Snail in turn attack Riverstar to stop him from rescuing the old cat.
Upon witnessing Riverstar's revival from Snail's strike, Ember denies the possibility of the situation. When Slash orders the rogues to try killing Riverstar again, nobody moves and instead, when the latter feigns a lunge, the oppressors began to scatter. Ember tells his leader to fight the RiverClan cat himself and when he doesn't move either, questions him of being scared as well. Slash denies it, and Ember snarls that if that's the case then he clearly doesn't need them, before signalling with his tail to Splinter and Snake, and leaving the area with them.
