| ~ Princess Veronica unknowingly talking about Embla in Xenologue 1. |
Embla, also known as the God of Closure and the Goddess of Barriers and Broken Bonds, is a major antagonist in Fire Emblem Heroes, serving as the overarching antagonist of Book I and the main antagonist of Book VI.
She is a divine dragon and the god of barriers and broken bonds, which stems from her misanthropic disdain for mortals and humans. She is known for being the goddess and founder of the kingdom of the same name.
Driven by spite, jealousy, and hatred, Embla would stop at nothing to see the destruction of the Kingdom of Askr, even going as far to cursing the royal bloodline of Embla to be plagued with sadistic and violent thoughts that persuaded them to seek the destruction of Askr. She is the arch-nemesis of both the god Askr and Princess Veronica, and one of the two archenemies (alongside Hel) of Prince Alfonse.
She was voiced by Sakura Tange in Japanese and by Mayanna Berrin in English.

Background[]
How Embla came to be remains ambiguous, but it can be assumed that she was born from Yggdrasil the World Tree like Askr.
The two gods/dragons bonded together as close friends, but their key differences were their opinions on humans and mortals. While Askr was open and welcoming of mortals, appreciating the hope in their hearts despite all of the challenges they faced, Embla was less receptive to them. Despite her blatant misanthropy, Askr coaxed and convinced Embla to tolerate humans for a while.
The two would form their own kingdoms named after themselves. Embla, having formed a pact with a human woman called Thrasir, gave her the power to open and close portals via her blood and crowned as the first empress of the kingdom of Embla. Embla appreciated the gifts, adoration, and declarations of loyalty from those who resided within her kingdom, but everything changed when one foul hearted human attempted to kill her, resulting in the man being killed in self defense and shattering her trust in humans. While Embla was distraught and in tears, her retainer Elm comforted her yet fed into her beliefs that humans are evil.
As Emblian citizens would travel to other places like the kingdom of Askr to explore and discover, Embla became jealous, envious, and possessive. She would murder and torture anyone that tried to leave the kingdom, and all it did was cause people to fear her more and more. When Askr tried to reason with her and explain what she was doing was wrong, Embla snapped and lashed out at him, cutting ties to their friendship for good. Since then, she completely closed off the kingdom of Embla and trapped everyone inside.
To show her hatred and jealousy towards Askr and the royal bloodline within his kingdom, she placed a curse upon the Emblian royal family that would allow her to possess and mind control them, as well as influencing them with sadistic and violent thoughts about killing Askr's royal family. Centuries later, Princess Veronica's father, the late emperor, would have a notorious reputation of being a violent warlord because of Embla's influence.
Book I[]
While Embla does not physically appear, she was pulling the strings and influencing Veronica and Bruno to kill the Order of Heroes, who just summoned Kiran to be their Summoner. Under Embla's influence, Veronica invaded other worlds and enslaved heroes and villains under contracts to fill the hole of loneliness in her heart. When conversing with her Heroes, Veronica described her reason for wanting to annihilate Askr as a voice in her head telling her to do so, unaware that the voice was Embla's.
Whenever Bruno was acting strange and laughing manically at the thought of killing the Askran royals, that was Embla in control.
Bruno, also known as Zacharias, found out about the nature of his curse long ago and he forced himself to fake his death and abandon the Order of Heroes as he did not want to be forced to kill his friends, given that he was the blood prince of Embla. Even when Zacharias tried to take his own life via suicide to free himself of the curse, Embla did not permit him to do so. Since then, he has been on a journey throughout the nine realms in hopes of finding something that could free his bloodline from Embla's curse.
For a long time, this caused Prince Alfonse of Askr to be cynical and avoidant of forming close bonds before he found out the truth.
