~ Emile |
Emile is a major antagonist in Dragalia Lost. Essentially the Sixth Heir of King Aurelius, he is also revealed to be one of Euden's older siblings. A cowardly, smug, childish and sadistic excuse of a prince who willingly joins Dyrenell Empire out of his own volition to prove his superiority towards other people including his little brother, it is soon revealed that he hides some Inferiority Superiority Complex beneath his fragile yet unstable heart and wants to prove himself that he is better than everyone else.
He is voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (who also voices Loki in Record of Ragnarok and Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti) in Japanese and Sam Vincent in English.
Appearance[]
Being one of Aurelius scions, Emile has nearly appearance similarities with his brother, as he is a man depicted with a slim build, pale skin, a short neck length blonde hair and green eyes. For the clothing that he wore, he wears a green coat and green royale shirt and a single brown shoulderpad, a sheathed sword, and a white cape, belt, and pants.
Personality[]
Emile can be described as a spoiled rotten child trapped in a young adult's body. He is an arrogant and selfish man who not only is aggressive towards Euden, but also takes sadistic pleasure towards his enemy. It is shown that he doesn't care harming any innocents along the way as long as he get what he wants. This was shown where he uses the android and attack a certain village just to prove his superiority. He also treats his own henchmen poorly as this was shown where he has no hesitation to leave them to their deaths even when they attempt to follow or protecting him such as the incident when his soldiers tries to fight against the Sylvans or leaving them to die in the Domlith Mountains just to slake his own ambitions.
Perhaps his worst act of him being a Bad Boss is where he forces his dragon, Mercury, to fight against the heroes by repeatedly kicking her while also mocks the thing that Mercury had swore to protect, uncaring that it will turn into something worse as long as he gets what he wants. This resulted on Mercury sever his bond towards Emile and forming a pact towards Euden.
Emile is also shown to be a Dirty Coward when the going gets tough for him. This was shown where Emile was overreacting when Luca shot an arrow towards him and threaten to murder someone because of it or the incident during Chapter 4 where he is scared of a lightning made by the Lightwyrm, Jupiter, himself while ordering Euden to protect him from danger while also ordering his little brother to fight against Jupiter before stealing all of the credit from him.
Despite all his negative traits, Emile is revealed to be a person with a lot of insecurities and inferiority complex because of his siblings were far better rulers or fighters than him and he saw Euden being weaker than him as a moment of happiness for him as he loves to antagonize him due to him being weak and when he started to get defeated time and time again by Euden, his petulant and childish behavior increases as the time went by while refusing to acknowledge his own defeat and blaming his brother or other people for his own shortcomings. Even both Euden and Luca pitied his conditions while the former claims that he had suffered the most despite the suffering that Emile had endured was not being explained yet in the story proper.
While it is at first believed that Emile possesses no talent of any kind, it's later revealed that he is a master in the fine arts, which was something Euden admired about him despite Emile being upset over his talent not having much value in being a ruler.
Biography[]
Main Campaign[]
Emile was first mentioned in the first chapter where the mercenary that the heroes had encountered, Ranzal, who views him as nothing as a fraud who only made a pact with a Waterwyrm known as Mercury just to show his own power and glory and none of the responsibility and competence as a ruler which resulted on Ranzal developing a trust issues towards the Alberian Royal Family that tries to save the Alberia Empire from disaster.
However, he then makes his full appearance around Chapter 2 after King Aurelius was possessed and changed the Empire's name to Dyrenell Empire where Emile intentionally sides with Dyrenell Empire alongside the Captain of Sol Alberia City Guard, Harle, after he found out that Euden had been branded as a traitor of the Empire alongside his companions. As a result, he gleefully tries his best to get the heroes arrested by ordering his guards to do so.
Responsible for destroying a Sylvan Village near Myriage Lake known as Woodhaven with his own army and Mercury so that he could subjugate all of the innocent people in Woodhaven and forced them to worship the mighty Dyrenell Empire in which they refused. When one of the Sylvans, Luca, attempts to attack him in order to protect his own village, Luca was fatally injured by the blow that Mercury had send towards him.
Despite the devastating attack, most of the Sylvans manages to runs away and hide in a certain refugee. This resulted on Emile losing his patience and captured one of the remaining Sylvans, revealed to be Luca's younger sister, Sarisse, in order to extract the information from her about the Sylvans who were hiding. When Sarisse refused, she was locked in a cage under Harle's advice. Fortunately, the heroes managed to liberate Sarisse from Emile's clutches and brought her to the Sylvans who fled from their village.
As Emile and his army attempts to find the Sylvans who were hiding from the plain sights, they were ambushed by them and when Emile was left defenseless as the soldiers tried to battle against the Sylvans, Emile then throws a temper tantrum after seeing the soldiers refused to defend him and tries to get away from the battle.
As Emile underestimates the sylvans and left his soldiers to die to save his own skin, Mercury then warns him about the guile and tenacity that Sylvans had possessed in which Emile offhandedly responds by throwing a temper tantrum towards her due to his insatiable arrogance. When Euden attempts to stop his brother and calls him out on bringing suffering towards innocents, Emile justified his actions by being in the right and merely doing this to obey what his father had wished much to one of Euden's companions, Elisanne, disgust which resulted on Emile threatening to cut Elisanne's tongue.
Annoyed by the heroes, he tries to kill them as he was also lured by them towards the Sapphire Battleground. As he ignored Euden's question on why he supports Dyrenell Empire, he then orders Mercury to kill the heroes much to Mercury's disappointment. Failed to defeat the heroes, Emile repeatedly kicks Mercury in order to force her to fight and when got shot by Luca, he again throws a temper tantrum, threatening to kill someone.
As Mercury answered Euden's question about the thing that she tried to protect the most, she then answers Euden's question that it is the beautiful and azure seas that she wanted to protect and treasured the most while also telling Euden that Emile promises to protect what Mercury had treasured. Emile then began to trash talk about it after Mercury failed to kill the heroes which enraged her and resulted on their pact getting severed.
As Mercury attempts to perform Dragon Parting and forms a new pact towards Euden, Emile tries to prohibit it and claims that Mercury won't survive after she sever her pact with him. Fortunately, she survived as it was revealed that the pact she had formed towards Emile was nothing but a sham. Throwing another temper tantrum, he then orders Harle to kill the heroes and try to persuade Mercury to come back to Emile's side.
However, Harle simply mocks Emile on losing his own dragon as the two retreated to Mount Adolla where King Aurelius tries to kill the Flamewyrm. Before Emile left the scene, he then taunted the heroes by saying that Euden's sister, Zethia, was heavily implied to be roasted alive by King Aurelius in Mount Adolla which resulted on the heroes attempting to save her.
Returning in Chapter 4, Emile and his soldiers then went into Domlith Mountains in order to make a pact with a Lightwyrm known as Jupiter. However, he was almost eaten by a fiend that was accidentally released from the cage due to the violent thunderstorms which resulted on the heroes had no choice but to save him. After defeating the fiends and rescuing Emile, he then decided to travel together with the heroes until they encountered Jupiter who was descending to the mountain slope.
As the two encountered the majestic Lightwyrm, Emile used it as an opportunity to make a pact and when asked by Jupiter on why he needed the pact, Emile simply answers that he needed it. However, Jupiter then found out that Emile lacked the power on making pact despite forming an interest towards him and Euden. As a result, both Euden and Emile were beckoned by Jupiter to come to the mountain summit for a challenge in which Emile orders Euden to be carried by the latter and if Euden failed, Emile claims that the Empire would befell into chaos.
As the two then began to challenge Jupiter, Emile simply commands Euden to go to the battle rather than fighting the Lightwyrm for himself so that he could be protected by Euden as he was scared by the Lightning that the Lightwyrm spawned. Although the two are seemingly winning, Emile then tries to take all of the credit from Euden much to the disappointment of Euden's fairy companion, Notte.
After the battle against Jupiter, the Lightwyrm became confused about choosing his new master as both Euden and Emile had a strong determination that intrigued him. As a result, Jupiter then orders Euden and Emile fighting against each other which the latter accepts with glee. As the two began to battle together, Emile then proceeds to project his own insecurities and inferiority complex towards his brother before being knocked out by Euden himself.
However, due to Euden's refusal to cause unnecessary bloodshed, Jupiter then becomes intrigued with Euden's resolve and it was revealed that the duel was a test for both Emile and Euden to see which one is worthy to be their master. After finding out that Euden manages to form a pact with another dragon, Emile then throws a temper tantrum and leave the scene.
Returning in Chapter 7, after his brother, Valyx discussing his defeat by Euden towards Morsayati who successfully possess Zethia, Emile then requested Valyx to become a part of his army in order to crush the heroes once and for all which resulted on Harle mocking him. As the heroes attempt to get rid of the fiends plaguing the Aquapolis, St. Lotier, they met Emile again in the Davian Wetlands, heavily implied to be the one behind the fiend attacks of St. Lotier.
Attempting to pathetically kill the heroes again with his army before running away to save his skin, they had no choice but to capture Emile in order to prevent him spilling the beans about the heroes activity in St. Lotier. As Euden asks Emile's business in St. Lotier, the latter simply scoffs it because Euden lacked leverage to lay hands on Emile. Irritated by Emile's behavior, Ranzal attempts to kill him, only to be stopped by his soft hands which Emile mocked. Despite this, the heroes attempt to bring Emile to St. Lotier authorities so that he could be put in the dungeon. However, Emile was saved by his brother, Phares as the two retreats.
Returning again in Chapter 10, he was invited alongside Euden's other siblings by Empress Zethia and Harle to Clave Loy'elune, the largest binding ruin that seals Morsayati's main body while recounting his story about the soldiers that attempt to protect him got killed the way down. As the heroes, Emile and Phares saw the flashbacks about Alberius failing to seal Morsayati, he then mocked Alberius for his futile efforts and finds him to be as incompetent as the heroes while not understanding the person's worth even after being called out. Alongside his other siblings, Emile then joined an alliance with Empress Zethia in order to slake his own inferiority complex while he doesn't care if the Empress will smash the world bits by bits.
He then returns again in Chapter 11 where he stole and used the androids that were revived by Chelle and ignored her warnings while calling her sloppy. Successfully taking the androids, Emile uses it to attack a certain village and kill everyone inside it to prove his superiority. When Euden attempts to stop Emile's attacks, Emile then uses the two special androids Chelle had told him in order to get rid the heroes once and for all.
However, the plan backfired on Emile as the first android, Mascula, began to rebel and dismantled all of the attacking androids while running away much to Emile's disappointment. After his soldiers managed to locate the heroes in the ruined village, Emile then used another special android, Laxi, as a last resort to kill the heroes. However, Laxi then began to rebel against Emile and attacks both of him and his soldiers which resulted on him retreating from trouble.
Following the downfall of Morsayati, Emile takes over the Dyrenell Empire due to none of his other siblings taking an interest in claiming the throne. However, even with this new position, none of the civilians acknowledge him as they continue to talk about the other scions taking over, not even realizing he already has. In an attempt to get people to recognize him, he hires to bandits to cause a scene, then he has his guards fight them with intent on being the one to deal the finishing blow. However, the plan fails miserably due to the guards getting carried away, denying him the finisher.
Caged Desire[]
Prior to the start of the event, Emile manages to get his hands on a smartphone that come from another dimension. The phone had the EMMA app on it which causes Emile to go even more mad with power as he uses it to brainwash everybody in Grastaea to worship him. His action result in two Dyrenell guard going to Euden for help. While one of the guards gets brainwashed as well, the other escapes with the help of Euden and the Phantom Thieves.
Eventually, the Phantom Thieves have Euden get captured by Emile so that Euden can deliver their calling card to him and allow them to steal the collective consciousness he had taken. Emile refuses to stand down as he fights the prince and the thieves up until the guard jumps in to show his genuine loyalty to Emile. This action has Emile give up the collective consciousness and smash the phone, seemingly changing his heart and turning back to his regular selfish self.
Elementary Escapades[]
When Euden hears that Emile has opened up a school, he becomes concerned over what his brother could be planning. As such, Ranzal, Mercury, and Louise are sent to investigate.
During their investigation, Mercury overhears Emile talk to a guard about some secret weapon to get people to recognize his greatness in his office. Figuring the weapon to be dangerous, the trio sneak into Emile's office to find the weapon to be nothing more than a bronze statue of Emile. Realizing that Emile isn't doing anything for them to actually worry about, Ranzal hits the statue with a bat, deforming it. The next day, Emile is crying over his statue being ruined, with all the students being weirded out over him having a statue of himself.
