“ | You tell your guys in Miami, your friend. It'd be a pleasure. I'd kill a communist for fun. But for a Green Card? I'm gonna carve him up real nice. | „ |
~ Tony's eagerness to kill Rebenga. |
Emilio Rebenga is a minor antagonist in the film Scarface. Formerly a high ranking general within Fidel Castro's army, Rebenga was responsible for torturing several prisoners to death, one of them being the brother of Frank Lopez. Wanting vengeance for his sibling, Frank puts a hit out on Rebenga after he fell from Castro's good graces and was sent to Miami after the prisons in Cuba were emptied during the Mariel Boatlift. It is there he would be assassinated by Tony Montana and Manny Ribera, and in exchange they were released from Freedom Town and granted Green Cards.
Personality[]
Despite his relatively minor role in the film, Rebenga was possibly the most evil vile character in it. He butchered prisoners and given Cuba's corrupt dictatorship it is possible some of if not all his victims were innocent. Given his track record of multiple deaths by torture, he was a monstrous sadist who had no issue whatsoever in taking human life and making them suffer gruesomely in the process. He was at one point highly trusted by Castro himself, so it can be presumed he was quite successful in his duties, but over time this favor was lost. Rebenga was also ultimately a coward, as during the riot in Freedom Town he was terrified, and when attacked by Tony and Manny, he tried to plead for his life.
