Emily Withers is the titular main antagonist of the PC videogame series Emily Wants To Play. She is a zombie that died in the basement of her house. After she and her parents moved away from their old home, she thought that her parents didn't want her, and wished to keep her away from her friends. She has talked with three dolls, that she called her friends, at the basement, and later met three others at Central Evidence, the main location of the sequel.
Appearance[]
Emily appears as a ghostly little girl with pale skin, white hair, no eyebrows, ripped up clothing, light grey eyes, and visibly broken teeth. Her skin appears to have been burnt with corrosive substances.
Personality[]
Based on tape recordings left behind by Emily's mother, Maggie, Emily was a normal little girl who was stressed about moving into a new home. After moving in, Emily began to become more angry and violent, going as far as to hurting another girl at school and killing a puppy because she simply "didn't like it." However, she would appear to be more calmer while talking to her dolls that she found in the basement.
Biography[]
Emily Wants To Play[]
The whole game circulates around Emily. Her mother, Maggie, puts tape recordings throughout the whole house as a way to cope with her depression, following the advice of her psychiatrist. Her mother says that they had moved to a new house, but Emily liked her old home more than her new one. More tape recordings can be found hidden in the basement, which expands on Emily’s life leading up to her death.
On the tapes, Emily’s mother reports that Emily had been kicked out of school for the third time for hurting another child and that she will have to remain at home from then on. Her parents find her speaking to strange dolls, but see it as the first positive sign of normal behavior.
Her parents had also gotten her a puppy, but the tapes imply that Emily killed it because she didn't like it. Emily soon began behaving strangely, for example staring at her parents in their bedroom. Eventually, they felt they had to move Emily into the basement. The parents discovered a hole in Emily's old room, which they know she created though they do not know why.
Continuing, Emily's mother went to the basement to give Emily some food but found she wasn't breathing. Emily was pronounced dead, despite the lack of physical injuries. Her parents refused to call the police or tell anybody because they couldn't explain her death.
Her parents then found the dolls throughout the house in random locations. She knew that they had to leave their house, but they were too late that they discovered the dolls were alive and left but were possibly killed by either the dolls or Emily herself.
Emily Wants To Play Too[]
The second games goes into more detail about Emily's disappearance and the death of her parents through evidence files scattered throughout Central Evidence. Emily will also write on whiteboards throughout Central Evidence about how much she had missed her dolls after they were taken away from her home. She also writes about how "he" (presumably Vult Ludere) doesn't like games and that he wants Emily to kill the player. Eventually at the end of the game, Emily and the dolls burn down Central Evidence to remove any existing evidence from the night and escape. The ending cutscene plays as Emily and the dolls are facing Vult Ludere. He says he "cannot allow Emily out anymore" and that "they are one." Emily lets out a loud scream as the screen fades to black.
In Game[]
Emily Wants To Play[]
She was first seen after the Protagonist went to deliver pizza to her place but the door was shut and locked and all she left was a message on the whiteboard in the kitchen saying 'Let's pay at Midnight.' Upon entering the storage room for the first time, Emily can be seen looking through the window, and upon entering her bedroom for the first time she can be seen crawling into the hole leading to the basement. If the Protagonist goes to the Basement from the hole in her room during the hours without finding the main entrance to the basement, they'll be killed instantly. Upon entering the basement from the main entrance for the first time, Emily is seen at the end of a dark corridor and walks off when the protagonist gets close.
- At 12AM she leaves another message saying 'Don't Look At Her.' When Kiki appears.
- At 1AM she leaves another message saying 'Don't Stay Still.' When Mr. Tatters appears.
- At 2AM she leaves another message saying 'Don't Run From Chester' when the doll in question appears.
- At 3AM she leaves another message saying 'Isn't This So Fun?' When all three dolls appeared to attack the Protagonist.
- At 4AM she leaves another message saying 'I Hide You Seek In The Dark,' where she finally appears to attack the Protagonist. If the player fails to find her before time (75 seconds) runs out, leave the room she's in, or turns the lights on, she will track down and kill the Protagonist. This is unavoidable.
- At 5AM she leaves another message saying 'Let's All Play! Come Find Me!' where she and the dolls appear at the final level. The rules are the same: Find Emily while avoiding the dolls and without turning the lights on. The basement is available in this level.
- At 6AM she leaves the final message saying 'That Was Fun! Let's Play Again Sometime!' where the Protagonist can escape. If the player doesn't escape the house in time, Emily or one of the dolls will spawn and kill the Protagonist.
Emily Wants To Play Too[]
Emily first appears in the dream sequence, where she is standing outside of the protagonist's apartment waiting to be allowed inside. After the protagonist unlocks the front door, Emily will crawl inside, causing the player to awake from his nightmare.
Emily appears once again at Central Evidence at 10:30 PM, where she will bust through a vent and chase down the player until the timer ends.
- At 12AM, the protagonist will have to find the seven antagonists, including Emily, in the dark before the timer ends.
- At 4 AM, the antagonists will play Freeze Tag with the player. Emily will have to be tagged first since she is able to unfreeze others.
- At 5 AM, the protagonist will have to hide somewhere, since Emily and the dolls will search for him throughout Central Evidence during the hour.
- At 6 AM, the protagonist has to find Emily three times while avoiding the dolls and without reaching the time limit.
