| ~ Hirohito |
Emperor Michinomiya Hirohito was a Japanese emperor, who is often considered to be the face of Japan, though Hideki Tojo was the de facto leader, in terms of the three-axis powers of World War II, along with Hitler for Germany and Mussolini for Italy. During his reign, Hirohito was heavily involved with The Holocaust and was responsible for the deaths of 10 million people, most of whom were Chinese allies although he killed many people of other Asian cultures too as well as a number of American, British, Dutch, and Australian soldiers as well.
A fictionalized version of Hirohito appeared in the Popeye the Sailor Man cartoon, "Seein' Red, White, and Blue".
Biography[]
In "Seein' Red, White, and Blue", Popeye punched a trio of Japanese Kamikaze soldiers in the faces and his punch released a giant disembodied fist that flew across the world and went all the way to Japan. In Japan, Emperor Hirohito was posing with his military uniform and sword and sitting on a horse with stereotypical Asian features. The giant fist came up to Hirohito and tapped him in the shoulder. Hirohito looked over to see who it was and the fist punched him in the face. Hirohito flew up into the air and then landed face down on the horse's ass. Hirohito then looked up and said to the camera, "It should happen to Hitler.", which it later did.
Trivia[]
- Due to the stereotypical way Hirohito, as well as the other Japanese soldiers, are depicted in the cartoon, said cartoon is banned from reruns and syndication on television. However, the uncensored cartoon is still available on DVD.
