~ The Heart of Ender as its last shard was brought back to the End. |
The End Mobs are some of the overarching antagonists (alongside the Piglins) of the Minecraft franchise.
They are a group of enigmatic mobs who originated from the End dimension, each possessing strange abilities like teleportation - unlike any other creatures from the Overworld and Nether. The most well-known examples are the Ender Dragon and Endermen.
By far their most powerful constituent is the Heart of Ender, who seeks to corrupt other dimensions by any means necessary. The Heart, in particular, is one ubiquitous entity, having been "in the service" of Piglins, Illagers, and potentially more foreign species.

Victims[]
Most of the End Mobs' victims are just entities that they took advantage of through deception and trickery, with a notable example being the Arch-Illager, who was tricked by the Orb of Dominance (Heart of Ender) into becoming a vessel for the latter in exchange for irresistible power.
In Vanilla Minecraft's context, however, their victims can simply be mobs or players that they either kill or hunt out of desire or instinct.
Listed below are their franchise-wide definite or potential victims:
Minecraft[]
- The Player(s) (Hardcore Mode)
- Endermen (caused by the Ender Dragon)
- Endermites (caused by Endermen)
- Numerous spawned mobs (caused by any/all; caused by Endermen, too, only if hit by another mob)
- Numerous other hostile mobs (caused by any/all; caused by Endermen, too, only if hit by another mob)
Minecraft Dungeons[]
- Illagers
- Arch-Illager
Minecraft Legends[]
- Piglins (possibly; possibly just genuine alliance)
- The Seer (possibly; possibly just genuine alliance)
- The Great Hog (possibly; possibly just genuine alliance)
Theories[]
- Overall, the End Mobs seem to serve as background players in the Minecraft world, manipulating events and societies for no perceivable or comprehensible reason to those below them. A common method of carrying this out is by prostrating themselves to the mortals of the Overworld and Nether, enchanting gear, granting mystic powers, and raising eldritch armies for them. Thanks to these, we know that they have quite the aptitude when it comes to magic.
- The Endermen specifically are implied to be in a diaspora due to the Ender Dragon's tyranny, suggesting that their teleportation to other dimensions is done out of desperation. Additionally, they hold a contempt for the Endermites, possibly due to the latter serving as pests or parasites to them.
- There are alleged Minecraft design documents in a number of Swedish libraries that supposedly reveal the Endermen to be agents of chaos, with their purported goal being the collapse of all dimensions into one through the displacement of blocks, explaining their erratic behavior in-game. The legitimacy of these reputed documents is dubious at best, however.
Trivia[]
- Endermen are likely inspired by the famous and Creepypasta urban legend, Slenderman. This is most evident in their tall, black designs and elongated limbs.
- This is supported by the Halloween Mash-up Pack, where Endermen are replaced with Slenderman.
- On a Reddit post in 2011, Notch suggested that Jean could be the Ender Dragon's name. This was also said by Dinnerbone when the same topic was brought up.
- In Minecraft: Story Mode, Endermites use their old texture from 14w11a, where they resembled Silverfish but purple.
- With the Echoing Void DLC in Minecraft Dungeons, a friendly Endermite pet can be unlocked as a cosmetic. This Endermite emits blue particles instead of purple, setting it apart from their hostile counterparts. Amusingly, it is referred as the "Friendermite" in the game's files.
