Enemy (Name Your Own) is the name given to an unidentified villainous organization in Popeye the Sailor Man, appearing at the main antagonist of the episode "The Mighty Navy". Little to nothing is known about the enemy, as they were left intentionally unidentified. However, it's more likely than not that they are meant to represent WWII soldiers from The Axis Powers, most likely either The Nazi Party or The Imperial Japanese Army. The unidentified people are obscured by their attack vehicles, these being boats and airplanes.
Biography[]
In "The Mighty Navy", Popeye was stuck with potato peeling duty, while the rest of the naval soldiers did all of the real work. Just then, they were attacked by an enemy ship. Popeye looked out the window and spotted eight enemy ships surrounding the boat and firing cannons at them. The Commander ordered his men to fire back at the enemies. The enemy ships started dancing and shaking like Indians as they surrounded the naval vessel and continued fire on the army. The enemy fired a bomb into the ship's window but Popeye opened the window on the other end of the ship so the bomb just went right out without leaving any damage. Popeye broke The Commander's previously given rules by running up onto the docks and grabbing a pea shooter, which he used to fire back at the enemies. Popeye shot down a bunch of boats, knocking them down like they were made of cardboard. He also shot at enemy planes and destroyed them, causing the aircraft carrier to swim away, cowering in fear. Popeye thought all was well when a giant enemy ship came up and opened fire on him. Popeye stuffed himself into a Torpedo Tube No. 7 and ate some spinach. Popeye fired himself out of the torpedo cannon and blasted right into the enemy ship, blowing it up and officially defeating the enemy. Popeye's heroism got him rewarded by The Commander.

Trivia[]
- The reason the true identity of "Enemy (Name Your Own)" was concealed by having the enemies not be mentioned by name or having none of the individual people appear on screen was likely to give the audience the allusion that they could imagine whoever they wanted in the boats. However, given the timing of the episode's release, it's most likely this unnamed enemy was intended to be a stand-in for the Nazis or the Imperial Japanese Army, as WWII was taking place in the real world and both groups would soon after go on to make multiple appearances as recurring villains shortly later in the series.
