Count Enoch J. Drebber is a minor antagonist in the 2016 manga series, Moriarty the Patriot, and its 2020 anime adaptation. He serves as the main antagonist in the A Study in "S" arc.
He is a wealthy aristocrat who resides in Lauriston Gardens, Wales, while seemingly a victim of murder, his true nature comes to light when it is revealed by Sherlock Holmes that he is a serial rapist who relishes in taking advantage of women, even tortured and abused them, having a record of kidnapping many beautiful women through abduction or human trafficking. He is the one responsible for the rape and death of Lucy Ferrier, the wife of Jefferson Hope.
Appearance[]
Enoch is an averagely tall man with brown, slicked-back hair who's mostly seen in gray attire, a large patterned coat, and leather shoes.
Personality[]
While he's dead for most of the part, it's made clear by Holmes' description that Enoch is a sadistic, misogynistic aristocrat who indulged in raping, torturing, and abusing women to his liking without any hesitation, seeing women as nothing but "toys" to satisfy his urges, and such cruelty he holds knows no boundaries considering the wide smirk he makes.
Biography[]
There's not much on Drebber's background, however, it's said that Drebber had a history of kidnapping young, beautiful women through methods like abducting them through his carriage or involving himself in human trafficking rings, which any woman in his grasp are horribly raped, tortured, and abused to satiate his desires to the point they all suffered slow and painful deaths. After doing so, he had their deaths recorded as "accidents" or "suicide" by bribing police officers or hospital staff to keep things quiet without any further question.
At some point, he set eyes on Lucy Ferrier, a happily married young woman and the wife of Jefferson Hope, and in an instance, abducted her, forcibly carrying the defenseless woman into his carriage. After a few days, Lucy was brutally raped and tortured to death by Drebber, and it's likely he dropped her corpse in Hope's house for the latter to find, all broken and maimed, as he fell into despair. The unforgivable act drove Hope to revenge that day.
On the night of the count's death, Hope managed to break inside Drebber's mansion without being caught and confronts him from behind, smirking from his recent rape. Overcome with rage, Hope shoots Drebber four times by the chest and dies of blood loss.
