“ | Indeed, you and your comrades have perished in the Tower of Serpants. Get up, I shall send you back. Or have you forgotten our pact? I help you fulfil a promise, and you bestow upon me your SOUL. A foolish barter I must say... Ha ha ha!!! But my power is not yours to exploit. I grow ever impatient with you, Algus. Once you and your friends succeed in the Tower of Serpants... I will collect your soul. | „ |
~ Epimetheus urging Algus to fulfil the bargain. |
“ | Hmm... Yes... A small delight... But those souls are weak. Mere droplets in an ocean... You on the other hand... To acquire your souls, that is something I cannot relingquish! I'VE HEARD ENOUGH! A DEAL IS A DEAL! YOUR SOUL IS MINE! | „ |
~ Epimetheus's reply when Algus complains about the bargain and tries to defy him. |
Epimetheus is the secondary antagonist of Astalon: Tears of the Earth.
Appearance[]
Epimetheus appears to be a tall, mountain-sized deity made of organic meshes, with the souls of the dead encased in the meshes. He has a goat skull for his head as well as skeletal hands.
Personality[]
Epimetheus is a serious, honorable deity who values fulfiling bargains and pacts. Despite being impatient on Algus' progress to fulfil the bargain and his countless deaths, Epimetheus is willing to help Algus and the party in their journey and resurrect them as many times as they need.
Being a death god, he regularly collects souls. However, he values Algus' soul more than droplets of souls that Algus has offered to him, seeing them as weak and worthless compared to Algus' soul.
Despite primarily having a serious demeanor, Epimetheus has a side of fun personality. In the developer room, which is located at the Catacombs, Epimetheus can be seen using the toilet. Should Algus interacts with him if he has the Gift item (which allows him to communicate with Epimetheus outside the underworld through his altars), he flushes the toilet and scolds Algus for interrupting him while using the toilet, claiming that he's disturbing his "sacred ritual" before resuming to trade with Algus while urging him to be quick.

Biography[]
Algus' Pact with Epimetheus[]
Long before the adventure party entered the Tower of Serpents, Algus had made a pact with Epimetheus, the Titan of Death, who agreed to resurrect the party as many times as they need by rewinding time in exchange for Algus' soul once they completed the mission.
The Underworld[]
When the party encounters the Black Knight for the first time and gets decimated by him, Algus is sent to the underworld, where the Titan of Death resides. Epimetheus reminds Algus of the pact with him, warns Algus not to exploit his power and urges him to hurry up before offering to bestow strength and insight to Algus in exhange for souls. The party is then resurrected by Epimetheus and sent back in time, with only Algus remembering the deal with Epimetheus.
The Bargain[]
Just as the party defeats the Black Knight and Medusa, the leader of the Gorgons at the top of the tower, the Black Knight launches a last ditch attack to take Algus with him and Algus is sent to the underworld. Whether Epimetheus succeeds to claim Algus' soul depends on whether the tower is fully explored. If the tower wasn't fully explored, Epimetheus fulfils the bargain and claims Algus' soul, and Algus accepts his fate and awaits for his eternal rest. But if the tower is fully explored and all items have been obtained, Algus tricks Epimetheus by using a Homunculus, a construct which technically is a part of Algus' soul. At first, Epimetheus gets surprised by the trickery since no one has tried to trick him before, then he relents and agrees to let Algus live, before telling him that he would eventually claim Algus' souls once he dies and bids him a farewell.
