Erebus is one of the two overarching antagonists of Persona 3 and its 2024 remake Persona 3 Reload, alongside Kouetsu Kirijo. He is the main antagonist and the final boss of the epilogue of Persona 3: FES - The Answer and its remake version, Episode Aegis DLC.
Erebus was created by the lurking malice in all of humanity that wishes for death, and once it fully formed it would call upon Nyx to bring an end to humanity by enacting The Fall.
Biography[]
The ANSWER[]
One Aegis won the Keys from the rest of S.E.E.S, they wished to see the miracle the Protagonist preformed that defeated Nyx and allowed humanity to keep on living.
They learn that he had used his own life force as a seal to seal Nyx away from humanity so she couldn't bring about The Fall, however Metis explains that sealing away Nyx is not necessary for she is neither hostile nor malevolent. The truth was the seal was place to keep Nyx from being touched by Erebus, the manifestation of the collective human desire for death. Yukari explains that when someone's life loses it's meaning, the thought of death becomes comforting, and Aegis confirms this by saying that during a time she too wished to learn death. Thus all the malice from their thoughts helped form Erebus.
When they defeated Erebus it dissolves, however it will reform unless that extremely small malice in all of humanity disappears forever.
Persona 4: Arena[]
Erebus makes a cameo in Persona 4: Arena being defeated by Elizabeth, she states that by the end of the year it will reform, confirming that it will never go away unless humanity stops wishing for destruction.

As the Grand Manifestation of Humanity, Erebus is a powerful primordial being of divine status that only powerful beings like Elizabeth had a chance to destroy it albeit briefly. Erebus is capable of mass feats of strength, and can call on all the elements in magic while having some resistance towards those same magic with only physical skills able to damage it completely.
- Immortality: Having existed since the beginning of time, Erebus had lived for thousands of years, and can only be destroyed by beings more powerful then it. Despite this, even if Erebus is destroyed, it will do little to stop it as long as humanity still calls for death, Erebus will reform.
- Superhuman Strength: Erebus has a tremendous amounts of strength amplified by the "Amp" skillset for it's elemental spells. In addition to this it is capable of preforming skills of physical strength itself with along with charging energy for either it's spells, or it's own physical prowess. It's strength however on it's own wasn't enough to do any damage towards Minato Arisato who had become The Great Seal.
- Superhuman Durability: Due to possessing the elemental magics, Erebus can also resist these kinds of magics including Almighty allowing it to take less damage against these kinds of attacks. While it doesn't resist Physical Skills, it is shown to take a lot of punishment, and still go on to battle.
- Magical Manipulation: Erebus is a powerful magic user able to use all the spells of the elements while also able to resist some to a degree. Erebus as the strongest threat S.E.E.S. had ever faced was able to perform feats of magical strength against them, and was shown to be powerful enough nearly destroy them in a single blow.
- Element Manipulation: Erebus is able to utilize all of the elemental spells with the "dyne" spells of each element, and can resist them at all. It's elemental abilities are also strengthened with the "Amp" skillset increasing the power of there effectiveness, and can also use the strongest spells of each element. As a side bonus, it is also immune to Light, and Dark skills while also using these skills itself for instant kill attacks.
- Status Aliments: In addition towards this, Erebus can inflict numerous ailments towards it's enemies able to paralyze, poison, freeze, or making them fearful. It powers this up with the Skill, "Ailment Boost" allowing it's ailment capabilities to increase in potency.
Skills & Abilities[]
- Master Combatant: Having lived for thousands of years, Erebus had master degree of magics, and physical strength as it's a powerful monster in battle with centuries' worth of experience in battle.
Vulnerabilities[]
- More Powerful Beings: Despite Erebus being unable to be destroyed for good, and can be resistant to many magics, it can be slowed down by other beings more powerful then it. S.E.E.S. in a great battle managed to destroyed it, even after knowing it wouldn't stop it for good, while Elizabeth destroyed it in a single attack with Thanatos. It is probably possible the only being that can truly destroy it for good is Nyx.
- Vulnerability to Physical Strength: Erebus can resist all magical abilities, be immune to Light, and Dark Skills, and can even give out physical punishment, but it can't resist Physical Skills itself which makes it a weakness Elizabeth exploited in one battle with her.
- No Mind of It's Own: Erebus doesn't have a mind of it's own only existing to call Nyx to bring forth the Fall, so therefor, it doesn't have a will of it's own. Despite this, it proved itself as a intelligent creature as it thought of using Aigis to destroy The Great Seal.
- Vulnerability While Charging: Erebus' greatest skill, is also it's greatest weakness as while charging to activate it's most powerful Skill, "Primal Darkness", Erebus no longer becomes resistant towards elemental magics allowing opponents to use there full power magical abilities against it. The attack also takes time to charge, so it's opponent's can use the time to there advantage to land attacks at Erebus at a great length, and once the attack is interrupted, it will become stunned for a while leaving it open for attacks.
