~ Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold in a recorded video.
Do you still believe in God? Then go be with Him.
~ Eric Harris to Rachel Scott.

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold are the main antagonists in the 2016 movie I'm Not Ashamed. The movie centered around Rachel Scott, one of the victims of the infamous Columbine High School massacre that occurred on April 20, 1999.

Their original plan was to blow up the school, killing approximately five hundred people, although thankfully, it did not work. However, Harris and Klebold shot and killed twelve students and one teacher, and they injured twenty-three others before killing themselves.

They were portrayed by Cory Chapman and David Errigo Jr., respectively.

Personality[]

Just like their real life counterparts, these fictionalized versions of Eric David Harris and Dylan Bennet Klebold were both psychopathic, disturbed teenagers with an intense hatred of their classmates and teachers alike. They also possess a strong, unspeakable desire to watch the world around them burn; Harris has even delusions of grandeur, seeking to create the greatest chaos mankind has ever witnessed. Despite this, they were not always like this. Years of bad treatments, bullying and relative isolation from the rest of the school shaped them into cunning, merciless, and ruthless killing machines.

Biography[]

Before the Shooting[]

Eric is bullied by a group of jocks. Later on, he and Dylan are at home playing video games, when Dylan says "if only this was Columbine". Eric responds that it could be, and Dylan assumes he is joking. Later on, Eric is in a class discussing Adolf Hitler and his views on natural selection, which fascinates Eric. He is later shown reading Hitler's book "Mein Kampf" and plans to shoot up Columbine High School with Dylan.

Eric and Dylan are among a group of students who listen to Rachel Scott's speech about Christianity. Once her speech was done, a home video by Eric and Dylan was played, which contained the pair shooting other students. Rachel asks the teacher "do we have to watch this?", and the teacher turns it off, saying they've "seen enough". Furious, Eric and Dylan confront Rachel on a flight of stairs, but she escapes them and goes to class. Eric and Dylan then practicing for the shooting by shooting bowling pins.

The School Shooting[]

Eric and Dylan notice Rachel on the grass with her friend Dave Rogers (who was based on Richard Castaldo). Dylan tells Eric that the bombs in the cafeteria should've gone off by now, and Eric says "plan B". They decide to use guns to kill as many students as possible. Rachel and Dave continue their conversation as the shooters get closer to them, and suddenly open fire, knocking Dave unconscious and injuring Rachel. Eric and Dylan then taunt Rachel about her faith, asking "what would Jesus do". Eric then grabs Rachel by the hair and asks her "do you still believe in God?". Rachel responds with "you know I do", and Eric then says "Then go be with him" and shoots her in the face, killing her instantly. After Rachel's death, Eric and Dylan kill 11 other students and a teacher before committing suicide.

Trivia[]

  • The home movie shown in their class was based on Hitmen for Hire, a video made by the real Eric and Dylan in 1998.
  • I'm Not Ashamed has generated controversy among historians about Rachel's final moments in real life compared to those seen in the film.
    • There is no concrete evidence that Eric nor Dylan said anything to Rachel in her final moments of life, with many accounts stating that the pair simply shot her without any exchange taking place. Additionally, evidence doesn't exist that Rachel even knew the pair.
    • The movie also shows Richard Castaldo, the student who was shot directly after Rachel and survived by faking death, later recalling hearing Rachel weep and curl into a ball in the grass as she laid before the final shot was fired in their direction. In real life, Rachel was actually killed instantly by the first shot and Castaldo injured by the last shot fired at them.
