“ | Hilda: You and your stupid bells! Did you even read my essay!? The bell just made the troll upset. Erik Ahlberg: Exactly. Hilda: What? Erik Ahlberg: Trolls might not be afraid of bells but they are deeply annoying by them. It's a surefire way to...rile them up. Hilda: Why would you want to do that? Erik Ahlberg: In the old days, all old Edmund had to do was wander into troll country, and BOOM! He's famous. Nowadays, it's not so easy. It's one thing to take a stand. But if you want to make history, then you have to make it happen. And that's what I intend to do. |

~ Erik revealing his true colors to Hilda. |
Erik Ahlberg is the main antagonist in the second season of Hilda and the secondary antagonist of its feature film Hilda and the Mountain King. He is the chief ranger of the Trolberg Safety Patrol.
He is voiced by John Hopkins.
Personality[]
He is an arrogant, self-absorbed, and pompous coward who is determined to make a name for himself, just like his ancestor Edmund. To achieve this, he deliberately puts himself in danger, like angering a group of trolls with a bell. He also takes credit for other people's work to make himself look heroic, and even makes rather devious decisions, such as planning to have all the bells in Trolberg ring permanently or trying to kill a group of angry trolls wanting to get back to their mother who has been underground for centuries.
Despite his actions, the Rat King searched for any skeletons in Ahlberg's closet only to find nothing incriminating. This suggests that he's less corrupt and dishonest, and more of a short-sighted glory hunter who only desires fame and glamor.
While he does have his flaws and shortcomings, Eric was able to recognize his own mistakes in the end upon seeing his own mother in the Mother of Trolls during the movie. This caused him to stop his fleet from attacking the trolls and allow them inside Trolberg. Following the events of the movie, Ahlberg resigned as the head of Safety Patrol, indicating that he realizes he isn't fit to be a leader. However, he does gracefully accept a medal for his actions in preventing a war with the Trolls, meaning that he finally got the recognition he desired while also having changed for the better.
Biography[]
The Troll Circle[]
In the main portion of the season premiere, Hilda rescues the chief Erik Ahlberg from a troll and gathers more info on trolls that she gives to Ahlberg. She tells Ahlberg that trolls are annoyed by bells and that they don't really help with anything, since they don't immobilize them, just agitates them to the point where they become more aggressive and fast. Despite leaving Deputy Gerda behind in the episode, it was the only option and she told them to leave her. In the end, Deputy Gerda was still alive and Hilda learned a bit more about troll behavior as she realized that trolls were resting closer to the city.
The Draugen[]
Hilda makes a deal with the Rat King (a hive mind of rats) to root for info on Erik Ahlberg due to Ahlberg's dimwittedness. She finds a rotten cod sandwich as her end of the deal. However, when the woodman tells her of pirate ghosts named "Draugen" who are trapped under a curse that makes them sea ghosts, and are in pain and separated from their loved ones. Hilda saves them by bringing them to their deceased relatives in the city graveyard. Erik takes the credit for Hilda's actions while Hilda herself discovers the Rat King could find nothing wrong with Erik.
The Old Bells of Trolberg[]
When Erik Ahlberg attempts to station bells all over Trolberg in an attempt to gain fame for “helping” Trolberg, Hilda knew that the bells made Trolls agitated rather than pacified. She also knew that it would disturb other local creatures such as the Woffs, the Nissee, the Elves and the rest of Trolberg. Erik makes a long speech about the bells on his soap box while Hilda and her friends sabotage Erik's plan with the help of the Keeper of the Bell.
The Beast of Cauldron Island[]
When the local sailors blame the Lindworm for attacking their ships. Erik assembles a fleet to attack the Lindworm. Erik's harpoon misses the Lindworm and lands into the sand of Cauldron Island, angering the Kraken who was the real culprit behind the attacks on the ships. The Kraken attacks Erik's fleet before Hilda tells Frida to make a mental connection to the kraken to tell it to instead feed its children ships from a ship graveyard. Erik throws another harpoon at the Kraken who catches it. Fearing the Kraken, Erik retreats. Due to this Trolberg is freed from its “Lindworm problem”.
Yule Lads[]
Erik is briefly seen carrying a large pile of gifts for himself while stating he's been a good boy that year. Completely oblivious to Gryla who was walking down the streets at the time.
The Stone Forest[]
TBA
Hilda and the Mountain King[]
He is first seen preaching on his soapbox.
