Erik Sotto was a major antagonist in the first season of the 2020 TV series Snowpiercer. He was a former Marine and a bodyguard for the Folger family. Under the command of their daughter Lilah Junior, he tortured two men from the Third Class, killed them and mutilated their bodies.
He was portrayed by Matt Murray.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Little is known from Erik's childhood, except the hatred he held against his white father. In his late teens, he was enlisted in the Marines and became a private soldier. He had his fair share of kills, but nothing to indicate psychosis. Years later, as Earth froze and became uninhabitable, Erik was hired by the Folger family to be their bodyguard. He help them raise their daughter, and in the span of seven years, developed an intimate relationship with her.
Protecting the Folgers[]
The Folgers managed to buy tickets to board the Snowpiercer. They were set for First Class, but in their way to the train, they were jumped by rioters. Erik intervened their attack and killed them before they could kill Lilah Junior. Impressed by his skills, she plotted to kill anyone from the Third Class just to see what it feels like, with Erik's help.
The Murders[]
Erik kidnapped a man and while he restrained him, LJ castred him. Erik killed him and chopped off his limbs shortly after. The body was found by Snowpiercer's Brakeman. A young girl called Nikki Genêt was a witness of the murder, although she was wrongfully charged for the felony, sentenced to inanimate suspension in the Drawers. Sean Wise, Mr. Wilford's spy, also fell victim to the duo. Before his death, Sean was tortured into revealing Mr. Wilford's secrets. This second murder raised suspicion, as Nikki was still imprisioned in the drawers, thus she couldn't be responsible for the first murder. She was awakened for questioning. However, during her recuperation time, Erik left the First Class to invade the Third Class and silence her. He succeded, killing two guards along the way.
Downfall[]
Erik wasn't able to return to First Class, the borders between the classes were closed after the Fight Night fiasco. Detective Andre Layton managed to figure out the killer's identity in the meantime and alerted the authorities about him. He tried hiding in a storage container, but was eventually found by the security officers Till and Osweiller. He escaped and took a hostage with him. An army of brakemen cornered him, making him release the hostage. He was axed to death after an attempt to fight them off.
Personality[]
Erik Sotto is an efficient killer due to his military training, although aside the war and the time he protected the Folger family from rioters, he never murdered anyone before. He truly cares for them, especially Lilah Junior. If it weren't for her influence, he wouldn't have become a serial killer. Even when given the option to harm someone without her orders, he opted not to, such when he held a hostage. Despite having a gun, Erik didn't use it against his pursuers nor the hostage, willingly freeing her and dying by their weapons in order to fulfil LJ's plan.
