Ernesto Victoriano is a minor antagonist in The Evil Within.
He is the late patriarch of the Victoriano Family and the husband of Beatriz, as well as the father of both Ruben (later known as Ruvik) and Laura. While he is only referred through audio logs, flashbacks, and documents that Sebastian can get, Ernesto is heavily responsible for molding Ruvik's current personality due to his abusive treatment of him after the barn fire where he locked his own son underneath the basement of their estate. He is also responsible for the death of Laura after he left her at the hospital.
Appearance[]
His family photo shows him as a tall man with short blond hair, which he would pass on to his son, Ruben. He had a mustache, a medium-length blond beard, and facial hair. It seems that Ernesto likes to dress in a dark brown suit, white shirt, golden brown waistcoat, and a dark blue/gray necktie.
Personality[]
His son described him as a tough yet proud man. In addition to being deeply pious, he showed himself to be naive in the face of several church scandals. Since he was portrayed doing something terrible to Ruben and Laura before to the game, he was also somewhat worried about how his family would seem. After the barn fire, his worry over his children being ugly led him to lock up his own now-disfigured son and neglected his own daughter, who was in a hospital in a vegetative state and finally died.
Background[]
Not much is known about his past life other than the fact that he married Beatriz at an unknown point in time, who would later conceive Laura and later Ruben. As shown in the flashback, both him and his wife were responsible for buying off the lands from the villagers, leading to them starting a violent riot by attacking their family barn where both Ruben and Laura stayed, causing the infamous barn fire that severely disfigured the former and badly injuring the latter after falling down.
Due to this, Ernesto became determined about keeping both of his children hidden from the public after the barn fire. It is said that he was too ashamed of his children's burns and unattractive appearance, one of his few obsessions. He leaves his daughter Laura at the hospital without bringing her home, and he locks his son Ruben in the basement.
He informed his son Ruben that Laura had passed away after being a vegetable for an unknown period of time following the incident, however it's unclear if he truly realized she was still alive. For many years after that, he kept Ruben hidden from everyone, even his own wife, in the basement, much to the consternation of her. Years later, it is revealed that Ruben has had enough and leaves. Then, enraged, Ruben murders Ernesto and Beatriz in their bedroom.
