~ Erron Black to Cassie Cage and her team
To hell with future. I live in the moment.
~ Past Erron Black to Kotal Kahn.

Erron Black is one of the antagonists in Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11. He works for Kotal Kahn and aids the emperor with the accomplishment of his plans. In Mortal Kombat 11, his past version resides with the Black Dragon for greed, power and autocracy, since he has grown hatred towards the current emperor in Outworld as well as the Special Forces. That said his current self still remains loyal.

He is voiced by Troy Baker, who also voiced Shinnok in Mortal Kombat X, Joel Miller in The Last of Us series, Magni in God of War, Higgs in Death Stranding, Pagan Min in Far Cry 4, Two-Face in the Arkhamverse, Revolver Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and many more.

Mortal Kombat X[]

Think you can handle me alone? You're either brave, or foolish.
~ Erron Black before facing Takeda Takahashi

Mortal Kombat X: "Erron Black's exact origins are unknown. Born on Earth, he somehow found himself in Outworld. There he spent years wandering its vast territories, selling his amazing weaponry skills to local warlords. Now in the employ of the emperor, Kotal Kahn, Black shows no inclination to return to Earthrealm--or aid them in their present struggles."

Mortal Kombat 11[]

The current Erron Black still aids Outworld, while the past Erron Black is a villain and aids Kano and the Black Dragon. He first appears after Kronika summons him to the present alongside Shao Kahn and several other members of his Outworld army. Erron confronted Kotal Kahn in the Koliseum Beast Pen, and was told that in his future he would align with him, which he would dismiss. Kotal considered this version of Erron more reckless than his older self, and the two fought, which the younger Erron lost. The two Erron's would be seen fighting before D'Vorah rescues Shao's forces. Erron later appears alongside Kano's past self. He's seen meeting with Kronika's righthand, Geras after restoring Sektor. The older Kano then shows up, and convinces them to help Kronika in exchange for getting control over every market, and Erron was assured the Black Dragon would get their fee.

During the Black Dragon's attack on the Special Forces' desert command, Erron leads the Black Dragon forces attacking the tank garage bunker. He encounters both the younger and older Johnny Cage during the attack, fighting and being defeated by the present day Johnny.

The past Erron is next seen at the Black Dragon's Fight Club watching the forced fight between the younger Sonya Blade and Johnny. When Cassie Cage attacks the club with the Special Forces, the past Kano sends Erron to finish off Sonya and Johnny before they can be rescued. Erron enters the fighting ring and severely wounds Johnny by shooting him in the arm, but is stopped short of killing him by Sonya. Enjoying the idea of "bagging the legendary Sonya Blade", the two had a short fight, Erron is defeated by Sonya. After learning humility and honor, the past Erron decided to leave the Black Dragon and aid the heroes in defeating Kronika.

Powers and Abilities[]

Erron Black is very competent with pistols and rifle, which are able to hit targets from a long distance and he is able to fight hand-to-hand without any problems. Black is notable for his marksmanship and his ability to ricochet bullets, he is also able to predict the opponent movements and attack with bombs filled with sand. He has a longevity where his aging process is very slow since he obtained from Shang Tsung 150 years ago. Lastly, he uses a sword, which is a severed Tarkatan arm blade to stab and slash his enemies. This indicates that as a bounty hunter, he's skilled in many forms of combat. As with mostbounty hunters, Erron is an expert at using various disguises to hide his true identity. Although he rarely wears said disguises during both game's story modes, his use of them implies that he is good at concealing his identity in case someone catches him.

Powers[]

  • Superhuman Stamina
  • Superhuman Agility
  • Superhuman Endurance
  • Longevity: Because Erron now resides in Outworld, we can assume that his aging would be slower than anyone in Earthrealm.

Abilities[]

  • Skilled Hand-To-Hand Combatant: He appears to be a master of improvised combat. He has shown to be able to handle the likes or Tarkatans, Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, and Sub-Zero's Lin Kuei warriors.
  • Skilled Acrobat: Erron does have skills in acrobatics.
  • Weapon Mastery: As a gunslinger, Erron Black is a master of firearms and one of Kotal Kahn's most potent warriors (as declared by the emperor himself). An expert marksman, Erron is a crack shot with both his pistols and rifle, as well as a competent hand-to-hand fighter. His marksmanship is so superb, he can ricochet bullets off of coins and other surfaces and effortlessly shoot airborne targets without looking. He also uses bombs filled with sand and sticks of dynamite for added offensive means, and caltrops to control his opponent's movements. Erron is also competent in sword fighting, using a severed Tarkatan arm blade strapped to a handle (that also has the skeletal hand of the likely former owner of said arm blade) that he uses to brutally stab and slash at his opponents.
    • Marksmanship
    • Swordsmanship
  • High Intelligence: Erron has shown to be very intelligent in various unusual tactics. An example of this is his use of caltrops, which he sometimes uses to damage opponents over time and leave a sprinting opponent dead in their tracks. Another example is his use of sand, which he throws into an opponent's face to stun them for a free hit. His creativity allows him to craft weapons from his surroundings, such as bear traps made out of the jaws of a Nether Beast and a jar of corrosive acid from the spit of a Saurian.
    • Tactical Analysis
  • Indomitable Will: Erron does show to have a strong force of will. He works with Kotal Kahn and will do anything for him to make the money he desires. He has been part of the Black Dragon clan and quickly refuses to give any information about his past and his time there.

Trivia[]

  • Erron Black resembles a Cowboy from Old West in the second half of the 1800s.
  • Erron Black is from the American state Texas.
    • This was confirmed when he states "Nice to meet a fellow Texan." when he meets Leatherface before a match.
  • In the 1860s, more than one hundred and fifty years before the events of Mortal Kombat X, Erron Black was given immortality by Shang Tsung when Erron killed a Earthrealm warrior for him.
  • He has killed few characters without showing the scenes or involving the story, Such as he killed Kobra, killed Kollector's brother, and somehow possibly killed Hsu Hao.
    • In the Mortal Kombat X comics, Hsu Hao was killed by Scorpion with his fist impaling his face, making a wide splattered hole on his head, While Erron's intro in Mortal Kombat 11 shows him carrying a bag full of blood and thrown on the ground while revealing Hsu Hao's severed head, It is possible that Kronika could of somehow brought him back alive when she used her Hourglass to set her schemes to motion and the Present Erron Black must of somehow encountered him before killing him.
