Eshonai is a major antagonist in the science fantasy epic The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. She was a Listener who ended up going to war with the humans. In her desperation to defeat the humans, she ended up bringing forth Odium and the Fused.
Biography[]
Eshonai was born to the Listeners, a tribe of Parshendi who lived on Roshar. She would explore the wildenress of Natanatan, and ended up discovering the Alethi humans led by King Gavilar Kholin. They had a party to celebrate the union of Alethkar and the Listeners. However, Gavinar told Eshonai that he planned to bring back the Listener's "Gods", which were the fused. This horrified the Listeners who had specifcally rejected Odium and the fused millennia ago. She and the leaders of the listeners decided to have Gavinar assassinated, which started a war between Gavinar and the Listeners.
Eshonai became a leader in the Listener army. She battled against the humans many times. She sought to try and end the war by making a deal with Dalinar Kholin. She battled with Dalinar, who managed to survive and retreat.
Eshonai's sister, Venli, discovered Stormform, an ability that could bring forth a storm. Eshonai ended up using Stormform instead of Venli. This made Eshonai more aggrssive and violent. She no longer sought peace with Dalinar. She would kill Listeners who disobeyed her. She had the Listener army all adopt stormform, creating a massive Storm, known as the Everstorm, This ended up bringing forth Odium and the Fused. Eshonai battled Adolin in the Shattered plains. She managed to survive drowning, but died shorty after from her wounds. Before her soul passed on, The Stormfather allowed her to ride the storms with him to see all of Roshar.
